How much PE1 Sunline Castaway on Caldia 2506H?

Hello gents,

First of all, the official PE line capacity for the Caldia 2506H is: PE0.8 - 140, PE1 - 110.

I managed to fit approximately 180 m to 200 m of 8 lb Sunline Super PE onto my Caldia 2506H without overfilling it. Although the manufacturer did not state the diameter of the 8 lb Super PE, I think it is roughly a PE 0.8? Therefore the actual line capacity of the reel might be a bit higher?

My question for those who have done the same or similar is, will I be able to comfortably fit 150 m of PE1 Sunline Castaway onto the 2506H without overfilling it?

Only one way to find out.
Fill it to your desired amount, I'm sure you won't lose much at all by the sounds of that, perhaps a perfect fit.

Sunline castway 10lb is 0.6

I get the whole 150 on my 2506 luvis

If that's what ur referring too and it actually has a breaking strain of about 8-9lb

Use an fg knot too get close to ur breaking strain

Use a meter backing on the spool also

I am considering switching from 8 lb Super PE (approx. PE 0.8) to PE 1 (16lb) Castaway. I have no doubt the 2506 spool can hold 150 m of PE 0.6.

True that. But the reason why I asked is because I don't have any Castway in PE1 with me. I do however have some Duel Hardcore X8 PE1 in 200 m spool - I just don't want to only use 150 m of a 200 m spool and leave the rest to waste. Hence asking people's experience to justify to reason for buying yet another spool of line while I already have like 7 spools of different lines.

I put a full 150m spool of Unitika Aorika PE1 (10lb) on a 2506 and it all went on but it was way over filled. You might waste 50m odd I'd say.

PE 0.8 in the Unitika Aorika fits on a 2506 perfectly. 0.6PE does to if you like to be conservative.

You can actually fit a whole spool of 10lb castaway on a 2004. Ive done it on numerous occasions. You'll find youll have to back the 2506 up a bit. Give yourself about 1mm of the spools depth for the braid. Its very thin.

I just managed to fit 160 m of Varivas Avant Max Power Jigging PE1 onto the 2506H

The line sits about 1 mm under the rim. I am very surprised...

By the way, I just did a quick comparison between Sunline Castaway PE2 and Unitaka Shore Game PE2, the Sunline is noticeably thicker. I guess it just proves that the PE system is not exactly a uniformed unit among manufacturers.

If you have a look on the official Sunline website, they state Castaway is 10-30% thicker than 100% PE due to the polyester fibres. But it does cast further.

You might get 90-100m recommended capacity. I would've gotten the 2508 model with that line.

Thanks for the insight, Miscreant! I didn't know the polyester fibres makes it noticeably thicker. It definitely deliveries a longer cast and I also think it has pretty good abrasion resistance in comparison with other fused and braided lines. My top choice for PE line for sure.

Unless something technologically new comes out, Castaway will be the only braid I use.

The new Duel Hardcore X8 is pretty good, too. 100% PE line though.
