There not that big mate I run them for my bream gear and it's good when u get a buy catch u have extra line too fight

Plus they only weigh around 200g I think 2004 190g from memory and I cast mine all day

mate the difference in 2004 and 1003 luvias is about 20 metres of line on the spool and the weight 2004 190g 1003 175g. If you wanted a reel to hold more line as bamm has suggested in case of jewy bycatch I would go the 2506,they all have 2kg of drag but would look at a bigger rod as well. With the pinster it is light in the gen blacks so I would say that either a 2004 or 1003 would suit perfectly to it. I have 2 1003 luvias and gen black itchy twitchy and a black label so similar set up, for me its all about weight in the hand.

Yea i just ordered the 2506 from jpanlger, haven't heard any bad things about them, but i figure now i can match a rod to the reel if the pinster feels to bottom heavy. Cheers for replies guys

i would get the 2506 for by catch like jewies..
i have a 2004 on a itchy twitchy, and a 2506 on a wicked weasel..
if the line difference is only 20mts on a 1003 then id go for the smaller reel for bream...

Would have to be a biiiiiiig jewie to need a 2506.. my 2000 sol has landed plenty of smaller jewies with ease. Remember most will be caught in rivers and they are going to bust you off before they run out 100+m of braid down river.

your absolutely right about getting busted off before being spooled..
however in saying that i have seen people get spooled or come very close. even in rivers and estuaries
also a 2000 sized reel will knock over most smaller fish to 70cm.
sometimes though they just spool you...
i ahve caught many smaller ones (under 60cm) on 2000 sized reels and they fight well on that size gear..

A 1000 size reel and 6lb will handle 70+cm jewies. As long as the drag is smooth you'll be able apply enough pressure to wear down a jewie before it spools you.

A 2004 would have been perfect for the OP's requirements, though I'm sure he'll thoroughly enjoy his 2506.

But seriously, who buys a product based on the possible by-catch. Under that logic buy a 4000 size reel for anything an estuary may throw at you.

The only time I've seen someone come close to getting spooled by a jewie was because the guy thought the only purpose of the drag knob was to stop the spool from coming off.
