Mono these days are only good for the middle of ppb in deep water for sharks and big snapper mate, and if going lure fishing most don't even use mono out there anymore.
You want to forget mono which is an old material line that's not as good in all aspects as braid. Mono tends to float so some use it for surface but very rare mate. Get yourself some good quality braid like sunline 8lb castaway or unitika light jigging braid 6-10lb off plat.com. Then for leader you want some flurocarbon - I use Berkeley vanish. Mono is hay day brother. |

Are you topwater luring? If so then this question makes much more sense.
Maxima I've heard is a favourite. Check out some of the high quality nylons from Japan too. |

I still use mono for some things guys it depends on the application.
I either use maxima, platypus or daiwa sealine. |

I'd say its fine for lures 4gms and upwards. Lighter lures might give you short casting distance
It will save you having to tie those tricky leader knots. Its favoured on many fishing circles just not on BM.
