Speed Samurai

G'day all
I am thinking of rolling up myself a Bream stick using a Speed Samurai S002X- 7' blank.
Has anyone out there used a rod made from this blank?
It certainly feels quite nice and seems to load up very good.
Cheers
Barney

Ive used the samurai 001 (the 6ft one though, not the 7ft) was a nice stick, youll probably find the 002 is better suited to hard bodies

Hi,
I've built one of the older SS007s. They're 7 foot rated at 2-4kg and I'm very happy with it.
Cheers,
Rigzz

so001x fit

Picked up my S001x7 kit today, it recommends to maintain the integrity and lightness of this Samurai spin blank we suggest that underbidding the guides is unnecessary, and use "C" thread as it is sufficient for this rod.
Any comments please.
All the rods I have built I have used underbidding the guides.
Thanks Tom

Hi,
I've read some rod building articles where they recommend other ways of protecting the blank without underbinding on light rods. One way is to place a small piece of tape under the feet of the guide and then overbind over it. Protects the blank w'out adding the weight of a full underbind. I've never tried it myself, like you, I tend to underbind all mine. Personally, I'd be sticking to 'A' thread as well.
Cheers,
Rigzz

Yep, I agree with RIGZZ for a part.
Use A thread for your over bind. The thinking behind this is the Lilliputian concept,( Lots of small diameter line to hold a large object) however as far as under binds are concerned, if the concern is to keep every thing light then don't do an under bind. If you are concerned about rod integrity, make sure you sand back underneath the guide feet with wet and dry and then run the feet over and old stocking to make sure there are no burrs.
I have made quite a few rods from the Speed Samurai range and a few of them had no under binds. No probs so far.
Hope this helps

My S006 was built with no underbinds. Has not caught any bream yet, but the 5.5kg golden perch was no problem at all.
