Unhappy Surf Rod????????

Hi
I just brought myself a penn slammer 560 and Daiwa saltiga z40. I am thinking to buy another tough surf rod(12') for rock or beach fishing to target fish like kingie or jewfish. I've looked around the local tackle store but none of them are tough enough for matching both reels. Can someone give me some advice please? I've checked the american website the TICA rod seems very strong but they said the rod couldn't ship to Australia because it is too long for shipping :-(

Nice choice with the Z rod (I'm right in thinking it's 8-ish foot spin rod?)

As for your second rod, have a look at an Ozflex SU400. Actually it sounds like you're over east... hmm so sourcing a WA built rod is probably pretty hard. Reason I recommend that one is it's 12' but mainyl graphite and v. light. Has quite a large max casting weight too.

Personally I don't do much bait beach/rock fishing cause I hate sitting and waiting. If you're going to be casting lures for kingies/tuna/mackies right up to tough northern species I'd go for a Composite Developments Graphcast III or IV blank as they're probably the best weight/power ratio blank around.

Oh and for better info I'd head towards http://www.sportsfish.com.au as there are plenty of guys there that do this type of fishing. Most guys here prefer tackle a tenth of the weight (and fish to match!)

cheers
Chris

Update: Silstar have just released a new range of rods called the Graphite Surfcasters. They come in a 10', 12' and 15' (from memory). Either the 12 or the 12 would be ideal for you - best thing is the price tag - about $130! Believe it or not these rods are beauties for the price - very crisp and much like a Graphcast 3 in terms of power.

The 10' is rated to about 10kg and is a seriously beefy stick capable of mulloway and kingies with ease. Very light and would sling a 50g chromie a country mile.
Going to get one myself I think for that price.

cheers
Chris

Something like the Pac Comp PPG 7144 or the Snyder Glas MT7144 or MT8144 would certainly suit from the beach. Not much difference in the brands. The Snyder's are very popular in Qld for jew.

I've heard nothing but great reports on the Comp Dev Graphcast 4 but I've never actually seen one and have always gotten a blank look at any tackle store. That's from asking in Qld, NSW and Vic over the last 6 months or so. WA is the only place I know of where you can get them. Well NZ as well of course.

Yeah how mad are they Matty?!

PM me your number and next time I'm heading out for salmon I'll give you a buzz.

I was gonna grab one as well but stick 8lb on it. Try and slice my finger off while casting.
