Abu Garcia velocity rods

There isn't much in the way of user reviews on any of the online forums. They seem like a top quality rod.

I would love to hear from people that have used them. Looking at the 1-3kg 7'5 for use on the flats for whiting (lures and unweighted nippers) with 3lb straight through.

I was requested to do a review of the 1/3kg and after writing it up and editing all the pics etc and sending it thru. was told the rods are being discontinues and the review is no longer needed.

here it is anyway.

Velocity rod review

Over the last 4 weeks I have been using the Abu Velocity rod. I have the 1 pce 1/3kg 7 foot models as it was similar to my Veritas that I already use. The first thing I noticed as I was unpacking the rods is they are a bit lighter in weight that the Veritas. If you check out the specs on line, they are built with 40 tone graphite rather that the 30 tone of the Veritas. More info about nano technology and low resin graphite construction meaning less resin used to hold the graphite together give a lighter rod without losing any strength. None of that stuff really mean much to me when im looking for a rod. I tend to us and abuse them and see how they fish before making a decision. You might not be to popular if you try that at your local tackle store though. If you have been using the Veritas then you will like the velocity. Its lighter in your hand and a little crisper in the action giving more direct action up and down the line. As with both rods having no fore grip I lay my index finger on the blank which allows the slightest tap on the line to be felt. My style of fishing is 99% soft plastics worked very slow across the bottom and I tend wind the fish on rather that strike so the soft action of the Veritas was suitable for me but the lighter weight of the Velocity was a nice chance partially when doing hundreds of cast each day. With full Fuji K guides, it keeps casting tangle free even when casting 8lb leader Knots. Over the 4 weeks my girlfriend and i really gave them a good work out on bream, flathead and skippy . The biggest test was the small Mullaway we found in Albany. At around 60 to 70cm they really go for some strong runs around the boat and even only using the 1/3kg rod, we managed to steer them to the net without much fuss. Over all the rods went great and I will be ordering a couple more for next season to replace to Veritas

I tried them for a couple weeks using the 2-3 and 1-3 kg rods, tried using them with hards and there wasn't a great deal of feel in terms of wot the lure was doing. Also a bit too soft for castin for my liking and the metal winding checks made the rod feel heavy in the bottom. Put on the scales it weighed at least 25grams more than any other similar rod I use which consists of patriarchs, gen blacks, lox yoshi....

Wasn't a fan over all

I had a play with them. Not bad but would not suit my sort of fishing. However I do think the would make a great walk the dog for whiting rod. Don't think you would pull too many hooks if luring for trout

Sucks hey mate, I've done a few reviews on request but they never seem to put them up!

Anyway I found the Abu Velocity a great, light rod. I used my 6'11" 1-3kg for chucking plastics down deep and they suited it perfectly. The handle on them allows your fingers to wrap around and stay in contact with the blank and due to this you can feel what's going on with your plastic a lot better, I would grab one while you can because as what is said above they are discontinued!

Hi
I’m looking to get the same rod in 1-3kg in 2 piece as they are on sale at half price at the moment.
Can you tell me if this rod is fragile ? since it is 40 tone graphite,
always seem to break fragile rods like Lox no matter how careful I look after them.
And now have downgraded to im6 graphite’s

I'm not careful at all. Smacking them on the leccy, hitting the room and using the rod to unsnag lures and have not had a problem so I would say they are not a fragile rod if that is what your looking for.
