New certate
Hey guys, I have been in the tackle shops today and were looking at the 2010 certate a and the 13 certate a in the 2004 size. I have talked them down to a good price but can't decide what one to get(booth being the same price) I have felt two of the older models and one of the newer. The newer one to me felt not as smooth and abit Geary and the old one felt alot more smooth? They are going to get more of the newer models in next week so mabey that one was abit rought?. Anyway I compared it to my luvias and my luvias is alot smoother and no gear feeling. Can any one that has used the new one or both even better. Tell me which one to get? Thanks

I've got both in 2004 and love both of them. I've had my 2010 2004 tate for nearly 2 years now and has been an awesome reel smooth as just a pleasure to use. I've just got the 2013 2004 certate and it's a super nice reel and I believe it is smoother than my 2010 tate but only because it's brand new I havn't fished it yet. The new one isn't as free yet but its mega smooth very happy with it.
My 2010 makes a bit more noise at the moment and feels a little dry and im gonna send it to daiwa soon for a service which I think is due. If I was paying the same price and had to choose between one id get the new one, but I love the look of the old ones and they are still awesome, if you were getting the old one for say $300-340 and the new one was $400-$440 then id say the old one would be better value for money. there's a few other small differences between then apart from the zaion air rotor and magsealed line roller which I think are both great improvements. The spool lip on the 2013 tates spool is quite a bit narrower and sharper compared to the 2010 spool I haven't fished the new one yet so cant comment on casting etc I reckon it'll be sweet. tate spools.jpg And the handle is different which does give it a slightly different feel when cranking, I sort of reckon compared to the old one it throws your fingers off the knob a little because its angled more (look at pics too hard to explain) but isn't any thing to worry about. Also the drag on the new 2013 tate is quieter but I still think it makes a sick noise. Also the spool isn't chromed, although chromed air spools look cooler the anodised aluminium spool is just easier to keep clean and won't get blemishes as easily just my 2c. Any more questions id be happy to have a go at answering them. 577556_470627626390911_157382498_n.jpg More pics of both tates 1.jpg tates 2.jpg 1460038_470627573057583_1402258200_n.jpg Last edited by redfinfisho; 30-11-2013 at 02:12 AM. |

Tates are made in Japan, Luvias also.

Are you sure they are still making the Luvi's in Japan? I thought they had moved them to Taiwan.
Can confirm the 2013 'tate is still Jap made, at least according to the sticker on the reel seat. |

Reels made in Taiwan, Korea, China... You would never know!
Sticker made in Japan - legally could pass. ![]() Stickers say made in Japan - not "Reel manufactured in Japan". |

Wouldn't that be a travesty if all Diawa and shimano reels were made in a third world country and cost them very little to make and assemble and charge top dollar to westerners.so when hung phong is putting that exist or Stella together for $1.10 a day plus material that's not a bad little profit the boys are making.if the sticker says made in china I beeeeeeelive it.

I've got a 2004H new Certate. Pretty good reel IMO. A little noisy but I think most high speed reels suffer from that. Still nice and smooth and feels solid.

Had a decent session with new tate yesterday got a bunch of small salmon and a small silver trevelly but also hooked 2 silvers around 45+ cm the power of those fish is absolutely amazing didn't see the first one had the second one on for around 5 mins got him to the top a few times and he popped off as I tried lifting him on the jetty. But I got to really test the new tate, awesome reel the drag was super smooth on the big runs and cast really nice with pe .8 varivas super smooth too very happy with it.

I have 3 of the 10 Certates and waiting for delivery of one (1003, 2500, 3000, 2004CH). I love them so much that I bought a 13 because I just felt I had to own one. I have not actually fished with it much but I would say, but for the mag sealed line roller, the difference is very minimal.
The 13 is smoother than a couple of the 10s but then a couple of the 10s are as smooth as the 13 so I think that just comes down to individual reels. I haven't noticed any difference at all in casting or drag performance. As someone above said the handle of the 13 is slightly different to the 10 but you get used to either within about 5 minutes. Personally I prefer the look of the 10. The 13 doesn't quite pop as much, looks a slightly duller reel and I am not a fan of the slash marks but that is just personal. Both are great reels, if there was minimal price difference I'd probably go the 13 for the roller bearing seal but at current prices ($100+ difference) I would go the 10. |
