Those sneaky finds...

Have you ever been wandering through a random tackle shop, maybe one you never knew existed and just had to pay a visit or one you ventured into on holiday even, and all of a sudden something catches the corner of your eye...... an item that you know all to well has been discontinued. What do you do??

In this case, i let out a slightly girly squeal and ran over to behold a 6-10ib Daiwa luvias (not one of the type R rods, but an older silver one) for a steal of a price.

after a quick play i soon put the rod on lay-by, and although i got in allot of trouble from the other-half and received a long lecture about how i most certainly do not need any more rods, i am still over the moon with my find and purchase.

so what i ask of you fellas, what is your best find to date?

Cheers

My grandparents used to own a bicycle, mower and fishing shop in the little town of Bowen, between Townsville and Mackay. About seventeen years ago they stopped the fishing side of the business, and ten years after that I found a forgotten stash of original Nils Master lures amongst boxes of bicycle tube and other random pieces in a thirty year old bathtub in the upstairs storage area. Being the generous grandparents they are they let me pay a few dollars per lure and be off with my new prize possessions. My grandad still has a few handfuls of original, in the box with price tag and all, Nils master spearheads in his tacklebox.

When I was rod building many moons ago I had a love affair with silstar crystal tips the original blanks were made in Korea.i remember driving up to Nelson bay and seeing some in the racks which I got at a cheap price.till this day they are the most robust and versatile rods I have used for saltwater fishing.we did insane things with these rods throwing around of the rocks and so on.by the way still have manns and nil master lures in my old tackle box.

that shop wouldn't happen to be in WA would it?

i do think finding forgotten/discontinued products in tackle shops is allot harder in recent years as more and more people are keeping their eyes open, items such as the original battlers, heartland z series as well as firebloods are rare as hens teeth these days

Nothing beats a sneaky find.... I got my first Heartland Z by luck, at a regional tackle store " fly bye".

It was well and truely priced to go out the door... I nearly did cartwheels on the spot when i saw it

Dave sort your missus out! A man cannot have enough rods!

Took a mate fishing in 2007 and he brought his old school tackle box his old man owned, he left the box in the boat and only recently i came across it in the shed. Old school nils masters in perfect condition and many others great looking wood carved lures i cannot identify. I offered them back to him as his old man past away but he declined
They will just keep sitting there i guess..
