Baitcasting for dummies.

Haven't owned a baitcaster for years and hardly know a thing about them.

Basically what I want is two reels. At this stage price 350ish per reel but happy to spend more.

Reel 1: light BC to suit a 4-10lb rod. For throwing light spinnerbaits/poly vibes and surface for bass.

Reel 2. Medium BC to suit 8-16lb stick. All purpose set up for bass and cod.

Any help/reasoning would be much appreciated.

Either and alphas or a pixy for the light stick mate, both will throw the light lures you're after comfortably, if you want a bit more multi purpose reel (saltwater stuff too) then go an alphas.

The other one a t3 would fit the bill nicely, alternatively a shimano a core would be very nice on it and can be found around that price range if you look in the right places.

Good luck with the choice and welcome to the dark side

Isn't there a few different Alphas? Which one should I look at?

Same with the T3, any particular model which would be best?

Reel 1: Abu Garcia Revo LT, Daiwa Alphas Type R, Pixy, Shimano Core, Alderbaran BFS
Reel 2: Shimano Chronarch ci4+, Exsence DC, Daiwa T3, Tatula, Abu Garcia Revo range.

There's a lot of quality baitcasters out there which makes picking the right one fun/stressful depending on how you look at it

I'm trying to make it fun, but I really am a noob when it comes to baitcasters.

The new tatula for the heavier setup would fit the bill nicely and leave a higher budget for the second which either a pixy or a t3 SV or an alphas R, if you wanna push it even a steez could be in reach. The steez ex was my first proper bc reel zillions are worth a look to for your heavy setup but the tatula will be a more versatile reel for alot less im probably gonna get a tatula

Just do your research beforehand. TackleTour have a lot of article and forum reviews on baitbasters, that is where i do a lot of my research before buying
A lot of reels will fall into the two categories you're after, you'll just need to look at the additional things like type of braking system, if the reel is saltwater safe, retrieve ratio, line capacity etc.

mate ive just started using bait casters after a very long break, i went for the t3,it is extremely easy to use, there are so many settings on them its not funny, 3 main settings, then 20 settings for each of the 3. easy to change out spools too,i ended up getting a second 1 & will be getting another 1 soon for a new rod that is in the post. The t3 mx is just a cheaper version of the standard t3 with a couple of bearings less i think & some plastic parts too i think.

I agree with redfinfisho, I'd wait a it and get the a daiwa tatula or tatula type r (supposed to be $200 and $250 respectively here in Aus) for the heavier rod. use the extra coin for the other reel, lures or the rod
