Reel for 6-14lb black label technical

G'day,

I'm looking at a medium spin rod for Murray cod/Jews/barra, etc. The 6-14lb black label has rave reviews as a tough as guts spin rod, which I reckon would fit my needs perfectly. I don't really wanna go 5-10kg and I've heard this punches above its weighting anyway.

As for reels, I'm in love with FG sustains so would people who own this rod recommend a 4000 sustain for it? Other than that I would look at a 3000 caldia, but I love the sustains!!

Any one who has any experience with these rods, any advice would be helpful!

Cheers

I love my black label & plan on getting another one any day now.
However I use very light rods so they are not the same rod.
I have a 3-5lb & its never felt like letting me down yet & its had more than one chance to break if it was going to.
I would say the one your looking at would be a great rod from my experience with these.

Hey mate I owned one for at least 18 months. I ran a 2500 sustain at first. Then a 2500 caldia. The caldia matched up perfectly with it running 16lb pe1 toray. IMO a 4000 sustain may be a bit to big on it. But it could feel great in your hands. Awesome rods and yes there super ballsy for there line rating

Cheers guys, I felt one in the shop the other day and it felt tough as.

I thought it might be a tad big Scott. On the daiwa website they said it fits perfectly with a 3000 size reel, which I thought might be similar to a 4000? I'm gonna have to get the rod and then check out a few reels on it I reckon.

A zaion bodies 3000 size would probly be a good fit on it. I just found the 2500 caldia a good physical size and weight for it but everyone's different

Cheers scott

Hey mate, I've got the the 5-12lb model teamed with a 2500 Cerate. Perfect for the species you mentioned. And the reel is great with 7kg.

The main downside I found with the 5-12lb, which is why I went with the 6-14 was the micro guides, because I was running 16lb leader and up the 5-12 guides were just a bit too small

I personally haven't had a problem with the guides using leaders between 15lb-20lb. I use the Albright knot and the knot finds it way out of the rod fine. Although I have heard a few people aren't happy with the micro guides.

Cheers mate, I did look at that but liked the heavier model as im getting a 2-5kg pinster for lighter stuff.

I bought the rod today so going to go and try some reels on it over the weekend, pumped! Bloke in the shop reckons it will be a bit light for the species im after but I reckon i can make it do.
