Cairns holiday Help!! Fishing Land based & Esturary Charter Charter
Hi Guys, will be going to Cairns for 5 days with wife and another couple, i am the only keen fisher in the group. Like to find land base options, will be staying at Palm cove and only know about their famous jetty.
Also would like recommendation on Estuary charters, i did a bit of research and found many $95/ half day trips, not sure which to be a better one to use. Last alternative is Hopefully can convince my wife to join me on a personalized estuary/ reef trip ( she get terrible sea sick if go too far from land) which are around $350/ half day, again would like recommendation please. ![]() ![]() Thank you in advance for all advises

Just came back from Cairns last month and went out with Daryl from -
http://www.fishtales.com.au/ We did two private trips with the family, with this company four of us total on both trips. First one we went on was a half day private charter at Trinity Inlet. Fishing was ok, a little slow at the time but my minnie me saved the day hooking a nice trevally in the final hour we also caught some mud crabs as well at our request but all where females so had to go back but good fun for the juniors. Second trip with Daryl was the best, full day charter on the Russell / Mulgrave river, they picked us up early in the morning and drove all of us with the boat in tow about 40 minutes south of Cairns dropped the boat in and spent the day live bait fishing around this area. Scenery is just epic, guide helps the kids learn all about fishing, they provided lunch and we got some nice queen fish averaging about 65cm + four total and some trevally + whiting. It was slow, boating a fish every two hours as I would have gone more for every half hour a fish but its just unbelievable scenery there so it was unreal either way. Highly recommend Daryl he is an excellent guide and very affordable. |

I've just came back from a weeks trip in cairns last month
We hired a pontoon boat from port douglas and fished the estuary system costs about 40 bucks an hour. There's enough room for 6 or more and the people that don't fish will enjoy cruising the estuary and spotting crocs and other wildlife. The fishing was pretty good, got a few mangrove jacks, bream, threadfin salmon, cod and flatties. Bring the lightest gear you've got and fish baits on the bottum and flick plastics at the flats and snags. You'll have a ball and we out fished most charter boats aswell. |
