Fish induced injuries

This damn sore finger is taking forever to get better! Just a small spike from a bass about a week ago that is really annoying. This got me thinking about all the injuries I have received from fish over the years Fortunately nothing bad enough to need professional medical treatment. But some momorable, like multiple spikes from a happy moment, laceration from grabbing a trevally around the tail & slicing my hand etc.
So I thought why not hear from everyone about all the damage fish have done to you.

The worst I've ever had was a spike from a flathead when I was a little kid.

I nearly cut the top joint of my pointer finger of my left hand off trying to skin a blackfish, had to play soccer the next day.

I got sent off after a few complaints about blood spraying around, I just put it down to the fact that we were 6-0 and about to make it 12 games straight.

Also got a operculum slice from a hefty bass and got one of those nasty flattie spikes right under the big toenail, that was the worst of em painwise. And have been bitten 3 times by trebs to the barb, what can I say I just have the luck...

The worst I have had was a treble through the finger...But my Uncle had a very nasty encounter with a Spanish Mackerel a few years ago while we were fishing out of his boat off the coast of Quobba.
While posing for a photo with the fish, it some how flicked back and bit him on the stomach and took a massive chunk out of his belly...But instead of heading back in and going to the hospital he stitched it up himself and kept on fishing

had a tailor latch onto my hand. Was getting some tailor for my family and went to snap his neck and loosened my grip and he latched onto my palm tried to rip it off, tried to open it with pliers but it just bit down harder. So i let it hang off me hand until it dropped off!!

Nearly chopped my pinky off as well, was cutting up a tailor (tailor dont like me ) for crab bait and it was frozen and i pushed down really hard trying to go through its head. It cut through but also cut through my finger cause i was holding it funny trying to get as much pressure on the fish as possible. Tip was hanging off and blood was going psycho... No stitches (should have had them) and have a dirty big scar there now.

Stepping on bluebottle and then managing to spread it onto other body parts such as leg and hand. That one hurt quite a bit. Had to forget about fishing for a while and sit down and grimace.

Accidently put my finger too close to a 30 cm tailor and it got a hold of my forefinger OUCH! Had to squeeze his gills as hard as I could to get him to release it. It left 2 deep holes in my finger which took weeks to heal.

Had a few flathead spiking incidents which do hurt but not too bad. Profuse bleeding though.

About two weeks ago had a sore on my left index finger - at work so used my carton knife to open it up... Managed to pull out a spike from a previous injury from a small flatty about a month before...

Talking about injuries - amazing to see how man hook injuries are on the net. Some of those are eye related! Really goes to show what a good pair of sunnies are worth!

I have had something re the spike, didnt know it was in there until the hand got swollen and i squeezed it, and a spike popped out. Freaky.

This year I have had a jewies mouth clamp onto my fingers and have had two trebles in my fingers, one while a luderick was still attached. Good times

Countless bream and flatty spikes, thumbs are scarred from holding flathead by the mouth, tons of hooks stuck in various places, the worst of which was the treble on a cod lure that my dad left on the floor right next to the toilet and I trod on it while taking a wiz. Cut my finger open on a shark tooth while I was playing with its severed head, but the most memorable injury I think was giving a tailor the old Rex hunt kiss goodbye and it took a chunk out of my lip.

Almost had one of those eye moments. Was flicking lures in pitch darkness with a mate. He gives his snagged lure a few yanks and it hit me on the eyelid just as I blinked! LUCKY I involuntarily blinked at that instant because I didn't see it coming. I no longer fish in complete darkness.

I clench my teeth, eyes and rectum when I see people yanking on their rods at the Sea Way when their hooked to the rocky bottom... I would like to know how many sinkers & hooks dislodge and become veritable projectiles hurtling towards them...

I always worry about leaving my car on the shoulder just in case some fool yanks one free and it smashes my window - or hits me...
