on my main nitro i've noticed discoloration on the metal of the reel seat,is this a common issue? is it like a laquer peeling off?

Mine is definitely a pressed metal skin over plastic

Haha all nitros get this.

It's no big deal, purely cosmetic. I think it's just oxidization rather than peeling.

It's no problem, just tell them it happens to every single nitro with that reel seat.
It's like a tarnish that cannot be removed with cleaning.

Wonder if it will happen to the Raider rods - they're a painted Fuji seat...

I had the same thing with my distance spin but I used the green side of my dish sponge and scrubed it off and its gone. Good as new. Also used I tiny bit of citrus cleaner too. Looks like new

thanks, good to know that works, how has it held up since? What I first noticed with mine was what looked to be flaking off of a laquer.

Its definatley real metal..

I think you are right with the laquer, some of mine have done it as well, there seems to be a protective coating over the metal, which can come off over time, resulting in some discolouration. Purely cosmetic.

Sure it wouldnt effect the rod just looks. But any rust forming on or around the guides means waters getting in. Not good.
