straight through rod

im trying to convince my self y i need a straight through fc rod, i dont no a lot about fishing like that iv done a search on here and found some good points, but what id like to know is when do people pull out thair straight fc rod, vibes? stick baits? cranks? structure no structure? any help would be good

I generally throw straight through fluro whenever im fishing a lure with trebles. Only time I don't is with surface lures, or with jighead rigged plastics.

I use it when slow rolling crank baits or in super clear water like on the flats.

Also will use it when using stick minnows around vertical structure to ensure they sink horizontally.

Any rod with Fuji KR guide frames are the go as there is no leader knot to contend with.

I don't have a special FC rod but use one of my faster taper rods as you are getting the stretch of the FC so don't need it in the rod.

I use a 203 Samurai for HB when using braid but when using HB with FC I am using a Pfleuger Trion.

Seems to work OK.

Hi Jack,

You don't necessarily "need" a straight through rod mate!
The reason I* tend to go towards rods with a slower taper for straight through fluorocarbon is because there is a little bit more cushion in the rod when the fish takes a run, making it less likely to pull the hooks.

There is no real set time when to pull the "straight through rod" out, just whenever you feel the need.

My post before yours said the opposite.

Braid has no stretch so you need a rod that cushions then lunges especially with small trebles so you use a rod with a slow taper (bends lots).

FC is similar to mono and stretches a fair bit so you don't need as much give in your rod. Well that is my conclusion.

Interested in your perspective as you have gone the other way.

I know what you mean, but from my understanding a lot of people tend to go towards slower rods for fluorocarbon straight through.

Figured out quickly there is no right and wrong in fishing. Fish always seem to give you points for effort.

I totally agree with the above. It's what I've done for the last 3 years with great results.

If you were to run a slow taper rod with the added strech of running fluro straight through you will struggle to set the trebles into the tough mouth of a bream. You may find you drop fish if you stop cranking the reel.

Sorry Todd mate but i agree with Blair on this one as well, i use faster taper rods for straight through. Each to there own though, at the end of the day like most things in fishing its personal preference.
