Do you guys Bream with 2-4lb rated rods????

Hi guys,

Just wondering how light a rod can you reasonably fish with for Bream?

Would a rod rated at 2-4lb with a cast weight of 1-5 grams cover much bream fishing or is that just too light?

I wouldnt mind fishing light but if i cant cover many situations and different lure types with a rod that light then maybe i shouldnt bother? Keeping in mind id rather not have to have a heap of specific different rods.

So can it be done?????

This questions coming from a novice when it comes to fishing for bream on lures!

Thanks.
Manno

Actually 1-3kg is actually better. Casting light lures and feeling very light bites is the name of the game. I use 2 -4 as an all rounder due to pinkies and some flatties. The more u pay for a rod with high grade graphite and guides, some higher weight rods are as light as the cheaper lighter rods.

1-3 kg is obviously a bit heavier, im talking a 2-4 POUND stick. 1-2 kilo. Too light?

2-4lb roughly 1-2kg I don't have any in my arsenal but yes you can depending on the area. Less pulling power so would suit open country where you can give them plenty of room to run if they need to.

Did it feel like a novelty? Like you were using a toy or was it doin the job and handling decent fish?

My friend used to use a 1-2kg rod for bream, now and then the occasional trevally. So they are quite capable.

Thanks guys. I want capable!!!!

So does a 2-4lb stick always mean expect a noodle? Or depending on the rod can a 2-4lb still have some grunt?

I use a Daiwa Generation Black Drunken Monkey with Daiwa Gekka MX2004 using 3lb fluoro carbon. It takes me longer to land a fish & sometimes I do get busted off but I've noticed I'm getting more bites.

Monkichi - So it'd be a true Ultralight rod then...

Squidlipz!!!!! Your very quickly helping make my mind up. Sounds like there might be light rods that can and others that cant? Don't know what Daiwa stick can man handle a 40+. Well it doesnt need to, cant expect it to. But i just dont want to feel like I should be fishing for 500g browns instead of 40+ bream!
