How did you lose your virginity?

Lure Virginity that is....

Reading through the thread about "why do you fish?" reminded me about my first lure fishing experience / experiences....

I was down my local creek 5 minutes from home where so many times I had thrown my packet prawns in chasing whatever would take them for hours on end.... I'd been to the local "Franklins" grocery store and bought a ridiculously expensive... $4.99 lure. Even at a young age I was carrying a hand line in the car with me everywhere my family went. - Just in case the opportunity arose.

I was so excited to try out this lure and see how it swam.

I'd lobbed this lure out as far as I could and was just bringing it back with a slow one hand after another style retrieve watching as it swam with this massive wobble with the current, diving deeper the faster I pulled it.

It was probably my 3rd cast, not expecting anything at all of course when suddenly. SMASH BANG POP.... Loose line in my hand and lure was missing from sight.

The only thing I remember seeing was a flash of bronze come up from the drop off and disappear twice as quick as it had appeared.

I stood there with the line in my hand and this stupid "can't believe that just happened" look on my face. Not to mention my expensive lure I'd just spent my pocket money on... GONE

Such a great memory....

So how did you lose yours?

Sean

Ha ha classic!

Mine was at my friends private dam with bass and yellow belly and we went out in a 3 metre tinny with three of us on it and casting around cheap lures when I decided to chuck a 20 gram raider! After a few casts bang winding in and my mate lost a bass to poor netting ... Wow!! Did that really happen ! kept casting and bang again and once again lost due to poor netting .. I guess I never landed on but I think that's what kept me going back and back for more!!

All went downhill from there!

Will

My Brother and I (me 8yo him 13yo) used to ride 15km out to a creek for the days trout fishing. Went from floating worms down the creek to the good old Celta's... Green and gold the best colour...
First Bream was on a fly when i was 17yo and moved to East Gippy for Tafe studies....

when I was younger & piffed a silver spoon in lake nillacootie and landed a redfin, must have caught 100's on spoons & then the big upgrade to celtas & ondex lures. when we got keen, would tie on a plastic mudeye to the lure treble & go the double hook.

still got the celtas & ondex range, happily upgraded from the mono I used in those days.

Haha....

Can't remember my first fish on a lure. Think it may have been a few Salmon down on the rocks with silver slices. Moved to plastics not long after that. Then Trout on plastics and then hardbodies shortly after that. Then Bream on hards and the rest is history.

My first lure caught fish was probably some small redfin on an old Celta in the Onkaparinga above the weir at Clarendon, SA. I can remember thinking this was unreal stuff and way better than bait fishing but for some reason I never ever went back there . Cheers Pat.

My first lure caught fish was a 5-7kg salmon off the rocks down in busselton. My parents and I were throwing out weighted prawns aimed at skippy, herring etc, when we saw 3 guys about 100m further down than us catching smaller salmon.

I decided to throw a Smilin Jacks 120mm minnow on and see if I could snag one. Not expecting anything, as I hardly knew what I was doing, you can imagine when my line goes tight, and 50m away, a massive salmon does some areal somersaults!!!

The adrenaline of that fight on very light gear was insane, and had me wanting more. I later came across this site, and started reading all about bream on lures,
I asked lots of questions (too many probably, I'm sure I really pissed off the members a year ago).

I eventually bought a few lures, and headed out in search of the humble bream. 3 sessions later I hooked my first one on an sx40 (303), and the rest, as they say, WAS HISTORY!!

Mate your still a pain in the arse!! Freo this Freo that blah blah blah!!

Um ive got no idea really all i know is my first lure caught fish was a Flatty on an old school plastic many moons ago, probably a mister twister or something. As for Bream i started out on placcies mainly grub style plastics and flick baits. Took what seemed like forever to start landing Bream consistently, used to chuck the odd hard as well, good old Scorps mainly. Great idea for a thread mate

Remember it well, was about 10 or 11 years old and bought a little mini all rounder high speed metal lure which was my pride and joy. Used to throw the thing around in the salt for ages and never got a thing. Stayed over a mates one night so we could go into work with his dad in the morning(he worked at the SA water treatment plant in the barossa valley). We were fishing in the water treatment tanks for a good hour without a bite when i decided to fire a cast the entire length of the 40metre tank and skowly started reeling the slug in with the rod tip held high. Just as i was about to wind the last few metres onto the reel when it was ambushed at my feet by a 40cm reddy. WaSnt much of a fight as i was using a massive old reel and half a rod with 20lb mono(my mates dads weapon of choice during his lunch breaks lol) but still remains one of my most memorable & satisfying captures and was the start of a disease i still have not been able to shake 15 years on haha love it. Great idea for a thread bought back killa memories.

When I was about 7 or 8 fishing with my brother at Queenscliff harbour, got a little salmon in the cut on a soft plastic. My first lure caught bream was at Anglesea river and was caught reaction biting a storm twitchin nipper over some weed beds.
