Slumming it. Sport Fisher braid.

sport fisher braid
From Marty K's
$10 - $12 for 150 yards.
For braid!

The spool I got says:
4.5kg 10LB 137m 150yd 0.12mm green.

Bought some (10 lb) to use as backing on a 2500 size reel with 150m of Tasline SAS 8lb (breaks a little over 10lb) braid as the main-line.
It's thickish, but still way thinner than mono or FC. It seems reasonably round. It's very rough feeling, has a woven or plaited appearance. Seems to knot OK. It's dark green. Sounds rough as guts going through the guides - so rough that I used an old rod to spool it up, not my good rod. Difficult to cut cleanly, end always ends up "fuzzy"

Anyone else used this stuff? I wouldn't use it as the top-shot, as I doubt it would cast any good (friction) and I couldn't stand the noise it makes when being wound on under any pressure, but as backing I reckon it could be the go! Let's face it, only time I see the backing is when I accidently stingray or something.

if you had the choice of that or mono, id choose it. i used it on a beat around reel for a while, foul hooked a sting ray and it pinged on a guide that got a little to hot, up untill then it handled above its weight for the price.

Mate, I've got the JW Hercules braid as backing on a few of my reels.
At least I know I've got less chance of being spooled with an extra 70 metres on there.

those cheap ass braids are surprising strong and will break well above its state breaking strain. It states 0.12mm but its much much thicker than it claims. So you might want to go down to 4-5lb for a thinner strand instead of 10lb.
