gamakatsu's 44% mark up

yep...
should see some big price rises if not already on gama jig heads. $12.95 for a pack of 5 round 25's 1/22 at a local tackle shop.

Bring back the $1 a jig head price the way it should be i recon
They cost bugger all to make! i would love to see the profits companies making..

rant over!

Some guys on here have mentioned they make their own. Might be a more necessary hardship now. Also the old split shot on a 90 degree bend hook might be a way to go? Means you can pick your weight and hook independently on the day depending on conditions and change it when necessary. Actually saying it out loud it makes so much sense! gonna pick up some hooks and split shot tomorrow!

They are selling for about $30 for a box of 50 hooks, I have designed a hidden weight style jig head mold just getting a mate to do the CAD program and hopefully it won'c cost too much to get the molds machined out.

Angry Rip off

I'm thinking of all the poor kids who just want to go fishing!
Some parents ' just don't get it ' as it is,which makes it a lot
harder for the minority of kids

I have them in my tacke bag but do not use them. I use to paint the splits as well, to match the plastic.

I also have a mould to do my own jigs that I got my old fitter to make up for me. Might have to bring it back out!

Oh the outrage! Think of the kids, oh the poor kids!

The company that brings them to AUS and the retailers may have something to do with the high price as well. Last time I checked they aren't forcing you to buy them anyway. I'm pretty sure there's some cheaper ones around if you don't think the Gama's are worth what they are charging.

I make my own jigheads using Gamma hooks both HD and lite wire & Do it Molds.
They cost me about about 50c a hook for large snapper to about 23c for bream size. You can get different hooks, some really cheap (dont get eagle claw or VMC) at about 1-10c a hook. I have tried a lot of brands but always go back to Gamma's.
I have a mix mold that has 1/32 1/16 1/8 1/4 5/16 3/8 1/2 - this is the most used. Also a 1/2 to 1oz shad style or 7" gulps offshore and a 1/4 to 3/4 marabu jig style jighead that I paint and put eyes on etc.

All up the set up cost me about $400 inc. 3 molds, 2 lead melters (1x production pot, highly recommended) toaster oven to set powder coat, heat gun.

Aus dealer was slightly dearer than do it mold website for singles http://www.do-itmolds.com/dealer-loc...tail!Australia if you buy in bulk go to Do it Mold, if Lure Parts Online dont have it.

They have everything from Squidgy style to the actual gamma brand ones they sell in the shops http://do-itmolds.com/shop/index.php...egory&path=1_7

I paint some - http://do-itmolds.com/shop/index.php...=3_156_379_166 glow in the dark too! (great for squid on plastics!)

I found http://lurepartsonline.com/ stocks most popular items from Do It Mold and at a highly discounted prices. This is where I get my hooks in bulk from. Since I live in Coffs I also buy small amounts from Mo Tackle/Fishing Tackle Australia.

PLEASE NOTE - Lead is highly dangerous when inhaled and proper ventilation, protective equipment such as gloves, APPROVED P3 masks and fans are necessary to melt lead. Also I have been told never to let water hit liquid lead as it goes BOOM!

Check these two out or PM if your got some questions.

Mate where are you getting your gamma hooks for 23c each?

Best I have found is 40c a piece for 90deg standard wire #1 hooks.

Cheers,
