I need a tuff reel.

He's guys looking at getting a new reel soon and it's needs to be tuff. I would like it to be a 2000 and under. Some of my past reels have not lasted me long after a quick dip in the drink so I need one that will survive past that. Budget would be 400.
Cheers Nick.

Dip any reel made for finesse applications in salt then it has to be pulled down and cleaned, otherwise it is guaranteed to experience some sort of early failure.

There is not a reel of that size that I know of that is made to handle being submersed.

Any of the major brands in your price range will do the job then. It is just personal preference really.

The new Luvias is probably best bang for your buck right now, my 2004H is noticeably smoother than my Steez, cant go wrong for the price.

Yeah the luvias sounds sick and I like the look of the caldia? I would prefer a Daiwa reel

I'd suggest you get the certate if you need something tough.

The only thing I'm worried about with the certate is the spool depth... I tend to bump into some decent fish these days and I don't want to get cleaned up

You will have the same problem with the Luvias then.

I manage to get ~170m of 0.6PE onto my 2004 though, unless you are chasing monsters that should be heaps.

consider the certate 2500. It hold 200m of 8lb fluro and I'd say 300m+ of 8lb braid. Its 245g though vs the luvias 2056 which is 205g and the 3012 which is 250g. The certate is built heaver in the 25xx range for a reason and thats to withstand abuse more than the exist & luvias can.

Get a 2000 Certate from Digitaka for well under $400. Awesome reels, comparable to my Steez except heavier.

If I were in the market for another spin reel I wouldn't hesitate buying another Certate.

most 2004's you can still fit 100m of line, especially around the 6-8lb mark. You will struggle to find fish landbased that will strip 100m of line before they brick you on something, so I wouldn't be worrying about depth.

As for "toughness", its more of a matter of looking after your reels by the sounds of it. Certates will last a life time so I would head down that path.
