Daiwa emeraldas colossal 2508 as a squid reel?
Hey guys, have a calamaretti 8'6" which I will be using land based. Originally I was going to buy the 2506 version at $349, but realized I can get the colossal for $499 now. Used to be an $850 reel. Anybody played around with one of these and what are your thoughts on this reel and in particular as a squid reel on a longer rod.
Thanks. |

They are one of the best looking reels in my mind and should help to balance a long squid rod better than the light emeraldas but they use to retail at $700

I think its a good deal mate. The rod you have would go great with both reels. The colossal has a larger drag which the japs use for massive squid.I guess its your preference. They both have Hyper Digi gears.Id prefer the @%)6 because the type of fishing doesnt warrent a large drag. But if you intend to use the reel later for bigger fish it will do it with ease.

The colossal is a beast of a reel, very versatile if you grab a spare spool to suit.
Resale value is very good to if you decide to sell down the track. |

I'm also looking at both as they are cheap at the moment.
I am more keen on the 2506 due to its lighter weight. I intend to use mine as a multipurpose reel that can balance on a light rod for bream and whiting but with enough in reserve to tackle rugger snapper |
