Whats the difference between a soft plastic rod and a hardbody rod?
As the title suggest, whats the difference between a soft plastic's rod and a hardbodied rod? What do you look for?

I think the main difference is the lure you have tied on ie- a soft plastic or a hardbody.
I like my soft plastic rods to have a fast/very fast taper and be a lot softer, and my hardbody rods not so fast and stiffer, the reason i like the fast/very fast taper is that it assists in throwing lighter jigheads. Last edited by chasenash; 16-01-2013 at 05:19 AM. |

hards = softer rods so you don't pull the hooks so easy and it allows the lure to work better (not being impeded by stiffness)
Softs = Stiffer rod... allows you to work the plastic more precisely and a better reaction for hook sets. That's how I understand it. |

I prefer a slightly stiffer rod for soft plastics and vibes. When i lift the rod I want to feel the lure vibrate and move, not simply put a bend in the rod and dull the action.
Hardbody rod I prefer a slower action or something that feels a bit softer and loads up quicker. When the fish runs at the boat or dives suddenly, the rod will buckle over and allow the fish to run without pulling the hooks. I prefer my hardbody rods soft with flurocarbon straight through.

Parabolic bend.
Softer rod for HB's, basically the rod loads up more giving the fish time to eat the lure. Stiffer rod for softies so you can twitch them easier . Last edited by Muz11; 16-01-2013 at 06:16 AM. |

![]() but seriously, just depends on what kind of rod you prefer to use for softplastics and hardbodies. the norm seems to be that people prefer a softer more parabolic rod for hb's, and a stiffer less parabolic rod for softies and vibes. however there are exceptions to the norm. i have heard of people who prefer there rods to be the other way round. Then there are people like me who just prefer more parabolic rods regardless. |

I like to use a fast tapered rod for both hardbods and plastics.
But my hardbod rod is a lot lighter in the tip.

Sounds like i'm the opposite to most, I like a very soft tip for plastics to dance them on the spot with heaps of action and to pick up on those subtle bites.
For a HB rod I go for a fast action and a bit stiffer in the tip
