If you were willing to put another hundred or so towards the rod I'm sure you could find something out of the duff stablle that would suit you well. Otherwise I would recommend a Gloomis DSR. I know you wanted 7ft but the 820 would suit you well.

I think it would be hard to go past a 7 foot Nitro Vapour if you want something crisp yet ballsy. You can buy them now for around $340. That's going to leave you with heaps of money for a better reel and lots of lures.

I would say the same, spend $595 and get a X840, a very, very good all rounder for plastics, hards...... well pretty much all bream lures.

Im just about to put 2 of my X820's up in the classifieds for $320 each in pretty much brand new condition. they both have smoke K guides.

But Im only going to do Sydney pickup. I am going to get two rods dedicated to hbs made so I wont need 4 820's any more

Cheers
Chris

+1. I picked one of these up a few weeks back and am definitely looking at getting one. Black Label is another good one and in both cases you would be looking at getting a fair bit of change out of $500.

Something like the brawler (miller) or (
Docks (duff) would be my choice, I like that power.

Loomis DSR GLX !!!

Samurai 201

Used both and are exceptional crossing over into bass territory.

If using lighter plastics and sticking to bream I'd look at Samurai 101 or a Nitro.

Mick.

Where can you get them for that price? Are you sure you are not thinking of the power/ultrabream models? If I can get a new vapor for that price ill be there in a heartbeat

I'm surprised the St Croix range of rods is not popular than it is here. I've only started looking at them recently when I was looking for a snapper stick and about to take delivery of another 3-6kg stick in the Legend Elite which is made from their highest end blanks. Doing a research on it, the St Croix rods have a massive following and their main rival is the Loomis which we know very well here in Oz. They have a great range in terms of lengths and line rating as well 1 and 2 piece configs.
There is a lot of suggestions here regarding the Loomis DSR820GLX and they are a great stick (I own one and is one of the sticks I'll never let go). But if you're after a 7 footer, here's where the St Croix Legend Elites or Xtremes shine. Full range of power rating and lengths. Well under your $500 budget as well.
When I receive my Legend Elite in a week or so, I'll give it a good workout and full review write-up here.
