1000 vs 2000/2500

Hi guys ... I've always steered away from 1000 style reels but I read somewhere recently that 1000 reels will cast lures further than a 2000 / 2500 .. ie light braid and leader 1-3kg range
Always thought larger reel retains less memory .. and of course retrieves more quickly .. I have a 2004 Certate that I love but in the market for a another finesse reel .. was thinking the new Sol 2 (2004) but then maybe a 1000 reet if there is truth to their ability to cast that bit further
Any thoughts?
Cheers .. 'Toga (Steve)

I think you heard wrong mate.
I use 1000s and 2500s and with the same line on the same rod the 2500 goes further.

Best sizes 2000/2500 i reckon, then again depends what you are targeting and where you fishing, but these 2 sizes will cover most of your fishing. 2500 size reel will cast futher due to larger spool the braid will come off better.

Some guys use 1000 size reels to run straight flouro or maybe they little lighter than 2500.

I hope this helps

1000's usually weigh less, that's probably the only advantage.
On one of my rods i've tried 1000, 2000 and 2500 sized reels. The 1000 Shimano would cast further because of the guide set up on the rod. The stripper guide was close to the reel seat so the smaller spool helped the line through that first guide better.

I guess there's a few variables but generally the 2000/2500's will be better for casting and line management.

I've never really bothered with 1000 reels, but I know someone who thinks they are much more prone to windknots etc

No real logic in using anything under 2000 size!
2000 and up for me

I have a ultralight 1-2kg rod that just balances well with a 1000 Ci4.
Other than that its 2506s and 2508s on everything.

I have a 1000 that's great for hiking into a spot as it's smaller and lighter and every bit counts, otherwise I prefer my 1500-2000 size much better! 2500 is too big I find unless fishing offshore for red bream.

Generally use 2000 - 2500 ... but for a little bit of light line fun a 1000 can be enjoyable particularly if the fish has some size to it. Regards. HBt.

some rods simply match better with a 1000 size reel particularly ultra light rods. The small spool also allows for a slower line retrieve which IMO is a bonus when fishing with HBs for bream especially.

I think it basically comes down to personal preferrences when it comes to choosing a reel size. I fish both 2500 and 1000 and for me it comes down to what reel balances better on the rods. As it was point out above a 2500 cast further than the 1000.

Strictly 2000+ for me, except for trout where distance doesn't matter and I'm using a 5'6" 1-2kg rod.

I used to be a big fan of the 2500 size reels, but since buying a 1000 size I love it,feels soo light and good.My mate got me onto it,he swears by em,It took me a bit to like em,but now it doesnt leave my rod! but I reackon a 1500 size would be perfect!
