Got my new beauty together

Hi all.

At the weekend I put my new combo together.
Shimano finesse bream raider 762 paired with a Shimano Aernos SP 2500
and Fireline 8lb chrystal.
Tomorrow I'll see how it goes. . Had to keep the limited budget in mind.

It's feeling very nice and I can see the fish coming .

Regards, BNE

So far I'm a bit unsure how the chrystal stuff will work.
It feels a bit stiff. Whatever. I'll see.

The crystal should soften up a bit after a few sessions. 8lb fireline is a bit of an overkill for bream though, probably breaks at around 20lb. 4lb will cover you for most situations while there are blokes that go as low as 1lb fireline.

TY. I'll see what happens and maybe I'll downgrade a bit and use the 8lb
on another rod. Time will tell.

I use 3lb crystal for bream bass and love it. I do use 8lb on one bc it took a while to soften

I've got 4lb Crystal on a 1000 size reel and it works good. No probs.
Combo sounds good. There's heaps of good gear around these days for a budget price.

Couldn't resist and gave it a go this afternoon.

First resume. The gear is very nice to handle. . You can cast the whole day.
Reel works nice and smooth.

The line seems to be too heavy and too stiff. But the conditions were very bad anyway. Gusty winds made the light weight plastics fly in all directions but not where I wanted them to go .

Jetty wasn't busy and I didn't see any of the few guys there catching a single fish in about 2.5 hours.

I'll downgrade the line and I'm not sure if I go for 4-6lb chrystal or if I go back to something like Sunline PE in 4-6lb....or lower... . Have a night left to sleep over it.
Any suggestions ?

Was good fun to test the new equipment and I went through the whole box of jigheads and Sp's.

Regards, BNE

Do a search you will soon learn to stay away from 6lb sunline super pe way to much trouble with wind knots. Get the 8lb run it myself as with the 3lb crystal like them both

Go the 3 or 4LB Crystal if I was you, 8LB is really stiff, 6LB is better. but the lighter the better, do worry about the braid breaking, any knot will break before it does. Well thats what I have found, I have 3LB on one of my combo's and have thrashed it around rocks, snags, snapper, trevally and it has never once broken the braid, crystal casts very well too. 8LB is definatly only suited for bait.

After reading 250thousandmillion threads in the "Line"-section ...... I think I'll go with your advice.

That the 8lb might work better on one of my other rods for bait that was one of my thoughts I had today and this is where the line will go.

TY for that. TY cameron too.

The good, the bad and the ugly.....

Today I had the chance to go to the Woody Point Jetty at 4.30 in the morning because I could clock off early from night shift.
Only one elderly guy was there and he dissapeared after half an hour not without leaving his place in a complete mess.....what an idiot.

But it seems he was not the only one. In the morning the jetty always looks terrible. Is it that hard to throw the rubbish into one of the bins ?
The benches were freshly painted a couple of days ago and now they look like....again.
I don't want to know how the homes of these recless idiots are looking.

Now to the fishing experience.

The fish was going crazy and every second cast was a hit. Cought a lot of small
fish (don't know what it was) , two very nice good sized bream.....that made their way off the hook while I tried to get them up, and a broken beer bottle covered in mud and shells :-)). Went through my softplastics bag completely and ended up with Gulp red sandworms going the best.
It was fantastic and I'm very happy with my new set up.

The fisherman kept coming and at 7am the jetty was crowded. Was interesting to see the faces of the guys that came at around 7am, thinking they are the early birds, and then realizing that all the good spots were occupied.... unbeateble faces..

Left the spot at 8am, had a quick sleep and now I'm having a few beer and enjoy the nice weather.

Regards, BNE
