Rod advice....

G'day all

I'm new to the forum but have been fishing for too many years...that was until I moved to Perth 12 years ago, fishing became a once a year activity on the annual holiday to Rottnest Is!

I have read loads on the forum in the last few days. My head is spinning! Heaps of great info!

I want to go out an buy a rod this weekend to use around the Swan river in Perth. I want to buy something of quality, but not over the top. I have a reel that will do for the time being (I will upgrade in due course). I'm looking for good bang for buck rod.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, especially from Perth based members who can point me towards a store (pref NOR ) with helpful staff!

Thanks in advance..
John

hey mate, prob the best bang for your bucks would be a Lox Yoshie 1-3kg 7ft ,good quality, light as,nice action and perfect for bream, flathead an whiting.I think they go for around $250.Iv owned one for a number of years, and have owned nitro's and other good rods, but the Yoshie is my weapon of choice! I'm not sponsored by em,I just love there rods!

If you could stretch the budget, go with something like the Lox Yoshi 7' 1-3kg, matched with a daiwa freams, or daiwa ballistic.

I just bought my old man a Samaki Skitch and 2500 Shimano Symetre for Xmas and it cost just over $220. Feels like a pretty decent combo, samaki's are great rods for the coin.

Also some very good bargains come up on here in the classifieds so keep your eye out.

Cheers Kyle

daiwa have a nice combo out at the moment, not sure of the rod but its matched to a an Aird reel in your size choice. $200 avalible from all the bigger shops,

Id go for a 2-4kg rod, 2500 size reel and run some 8lb braid. (will keep you out of wind knot territory)

+1 I have had a samaki skitch and there are seriously nice rods. A 2-4kg model will allow you to throw anything from light bream lures to larger plastics for flathead or jews. The skitch's are light and the blanks are nice and crisp. Even better they go for like $100. Also have a Lox Yoshi and tbh I dont think they are $200 better than the skitch, still really nice though!

G Loomis have some rods in that price range.
The Aussie GL's are around $200 and the DSR820S Blend is about $250. If you're keen on the DSR, try and look for the INTL short handle version.
Lox Yoshi's are good too, i used to have one. You should be able to get them for under $200 if you look around or wait for specials. They're probably not as versatile as a 2-4kg though.
Otherwise look at the Generation Blacks, Black Labels etc.
