Ever made your own lures?

Hey, just after some opinions on altering/making some maribou jig style lures for flatties. Picked up a heap of Halco Whiptail Jigs a while back from a store that closed down, have been cutting the second tail section off and using them like maribou jigs.

Now ive got a couple of these tails floating around and im thinking of attaching them to old jigheads, even some old ratty maribou jigs.
My theory was just to use some cotton thread, wrap them onto the shank and use some kind of super glue to hold it there.
So anyone done something similar or could offer any tips before i go do the old trial and error?
cheers

Those whiptails are my goto lure for tailor off the boat. To light for land based but they clean up off the boat

I make a few snapper & flattie flies/lures, wrap tie the thread onto your jig head 1st, then lay down dob of super glue, place the tail on the glue, wrap a few times evenly down along jig head, tie off. I put 2 coats of clear (very cheap) nail polish on the thread, seems to last a bit longer.

great realin in a fish caught on your lure!

Flatty jigs, these are on 4/0's I think, download a fly tieing flick to get an idea of how it's done. It's not hard, just takes a bit of time. On the upside they fish really well and the Blowies don't cane them.

Mine, when i get round to it, are gonna be rubbish compared to those haha. I imagine there are specialty 'fly tying' equipment/shops that u get materials from?

Other than hooks and dumbell eyes (which you can make out of split shot) this kit would do you for 10years or more.

I bought one similar about 20years ago and it's still going strong, the main stuff you'll go through is bucktail and crystalflash. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying plastics...
