DSR820S GLX Stripper Guide Replacement
Hi Guys,
I notice this has been a trend for a number of individuals and just throwing it out there again to see everyone's preferences as to the type of guide to replace the Recoil stripper found on factory DSR GLX's. There are obviously a number of options and I'd like to see people's opinions on the pros and cons of each. Some of the more obvious options I believe are Fuji Y Guides (most popular guide still on spinning rods), K guides (the up and comer) and AT guides. All of these are profiled well at http://anglersresource.net/SpinningS...ionGuides.aspx In terms of location, some people have also suggested moving the stripper further up the blank. Who has done this and how has it impacted/improved casting distance? Finally, does anybody have a rod builder they recommend to perform this? I'd need it done on 3 rods. Cheers A |

Mate I have a Dsr glx too and I reckon the best guide would be the fuji tsic y guide.
If you have a look at the black label technical rods and copy that. The guide on this rod is very large, you wouldnt then need to move the placement of the guide then. I'll watch this post with interest as I rather my 1000 reels instead of 2500 for the size and placement of the ist guide. Cheers matt |

Thanks Matt, I was leaning towards the Y too because it's the classic and most common and doubt anyone has tried the K's as of yet? I wonder if a single Stripper K in isolated would be beneficial? I've got most of the Black Labels too and you're right, they like an oversized stripper.

I will also view with interest. Have just begun using a Loomis SR842-2 GLX (land based) using a 1000 reel and I find that at the present it casts as well if not better(no knot catching)than my TSR. So the decision for me will be: Do I replace the stripper recoil on this rod ... but with what. Regards. HBt.

Yep, I also plan to do it to a TSR and some heavier Loomis sticks that run Recoils all the way too.

Just out of interest what heavier sticks are you running? I am looking to get something in GLX around 7 foot and rated at 10 -17 or 12-20lb but the options on their website are limited. I have an NRX 852 which is a great rod but want to put a 2500 on it leaving a heavier rod for my 4000. |

All true and even running a shorter leader can have an effect. By shorter I mean braid before the reel when ready to cast.
I would get it changed to a K guide but I think you may want to look into it a fair bit. I dont build rods and dont know about the specific placement of guides due to weight, size and type when you are changing from a recoil to insert guide. Cheers Chris

I've got Y guides on my 820s and they are the larger 30mm ones. As for placement, it all depends on what reel you are using. The angle of reel stems are all different between models. My Sol 2000 has a lesser angle than my Luvias 2000 so it's best to set the placement to the reel you will most likely use. Having said that, by using a bigger stripper, to an extent, the placement doesn't have to be as accurate.
