Strudwick Sicstiks

Anyone used the new Sicstiks by Strudwick yet, any information would be helpful. I am planing on setting one up with one of the Tica reels but would like some first hand info before I buy. Thanks in advance.

Hey Bull

I bought a 6'6" 2 piece a while back and I like it. Haven't caught too much on it but thats not the rods fault It's a good starter for me at a reasonable price.

have owned couple of shimano squidgy's but kept braking... since have got sicstick, nice, very nice, have caught bream with it on sp, very nice rod, same weight as shimano, but better grips and nice blue finish + fuji guides...I like it, but then again never used anything like a gloomis or bream buster to compare it with...

I had a good play around with one a few weeks back and I must say this rod and the daiwa heartland rods are great for $150.00 or less price range.

Hi,

I was wondering what the commotion about the Sicstiks were and decided to go to a tackle shop to check it out. I must say I wasn't very impressed with it. Maybe it was the guides, too few in number than what I would prefer. Also, the bindings on it didn't look all that impressive if compared to say a Daiwa Heartland. Also I must admit I have a preference for a rod that has a really thin tip, not necessarily whippy, but thin implying high modulus graphite and that's why I would drool over a Loomis IMX spin rod.

As far as thinness goes, I think the best would be the Mitchell Zero Gravity rods which is my bait rod of choice but it lacks the stopping power required when fishing structures and pylons. Its also too soft for lure or SP fishing...

Conclusion, if I had the money to buy a sicstik... I would actually get something else, preferably a Daiwa.

Well, maybe this is one case where it casts better than it looks! Either that or, the shimano rods looks better than it casts! Small confession, I haven't used the shimano rods (Stella and Squidgy) yet. The one I have is an old production which I think is the best they've had so far, the Stimula series with half cork grips thru the blank all the way to the butt. I got that in Malaysia for a fraction of the price they sell it here and that's been serving me well. My rod of choice tho' is the Loomis of which I have 2, IMX and GL2.

ive got the 7ft sicstik and its a heaps good rod to cast nice and accurate, rated to 1-3kg but i think it can handle more than my 2-4kg stella it has a lot in the butt. good value for money
it was a toss up with the 6-6 ft but when cristening the sicstik the extra length of the 7ft gave more levering in controling and steering the fish so i was glad i chose it as ive already got 2 6-6 anyway it made sense to get a 7ft.
try saying 6-6 sicstik fast

I'm with Stu_ooo use it before you abuse it. Although I got the heavier version to chase Sooties around with, it is a pleasure to fish with. the butt section power to spare and it can throw lures soft or hard a mile with plenty of accuracy. I don't really give a rats arse what they look like, just so long as the rod performs ( and it does that well). I just spent one of the best weekens chasing Sooties most people won't get to see in a lifetime, 120 fish in 6 hours most up in the 38-40cm range got one in the mystical 50cm range and quite a few in the 45-50cm range and I can tell you it takes a lot to stop a big Sooties from busting you off in the rocks but this stick did very well in that department(although i did manage to get done 9 times though ). My opinion of the rod stands at by one and you will love it.

P.S By the way A-Mart Allsports sell the rods for $140 each.

I'm thinking about getting a 7' stick, and been looking at the Strud's TPS, Blackdiamond Reaper & Ranger, Daiwa TD Battler among others, any one use any of these and how does compare with each other?

I know the Sicstick is quite a bit cheaper than the above, but how does it perform compare to the higher price rods?

Traveller,
I have recently got the 7 foot TPS and am very happy with it. It's light and sensitive with a more moderate action but still has enough balls for me to put some hurt on fish if needed.

I haven't used the other rods but have had a look at the Sicstik. It is not in the same class as the TPS, being heavier and less sensitive but is much cheaper and will be alot tougher. I'd go the TPS as it's going to let you hook more fish but you have to consider the price difference.
