Which DSLR should I get?

Righto camera experts, hit me with some ideas on what camera to get!

Budget: $400-$600 (Camera body only or with lenses) Don't be scared to recommend future lense choices either.

Will be used for fishing 95% of the time. So it must be able to take good macro shots and scenic shots. Video isn't essential but it would be handy.

Cheers

How about good clean 2nd hand canon 50D or canon 550D with canon lens 1.8f or if you have more $$ go for 1.4f

I'm not expert but i hope this helps mate

Thanks Nick. I have used a couple of Canons and they seemed pretty good to me. Open to any brands though.

Will look into it ash. Thanks it all helps, I'm no expert either.

Go with Canon mate. Main reason for me is their lenses are the best imo. Other companies do make good lenses but Canons "L" lenses are the go.
I dont think another company makes bodies and lenses, or quality glass anyway.
Im selling this package to pay for a new (used) Minn Kota with Ipilot.
Pm me if you like.
Col.

ad, canon g12 mate. You dont need an dslr to take great shots. Alot of my shots go straight into fishing wild unedited. With the amount of gear you take out another bulky bag is not needed, plus you can get a housing and it takes insane underwater shots. I have a canon dslr and to be honest it never gets used
Just a thought, sure a few on here will agree, some not.
good luck with the decision

Thanks for the input Gav. My compact camera just doesn't do it for me atm. Especially with the close up shots but maybe I just need a better one? I dunno! Some of your underwater shots are pretty damn sweet!

There's a few good second hand DSLR cameras about, that might be the best place to start. Won't be wasting a fortune if it's not ideal for me that way.

Nikon

I think all the boys so far have got it right. I use a Nikon D90 and I find it the most UN user friendly camera EVER! So I am lead to believe, the cannons are heaps easier to use. Not sure about lenses

Just googled it. Looks pretty good to me, fits the budget to. Might be worth a try. You got any real close up shots you can show me?

I would go the g12 to. Great little Camera has a realy large sensor that sould capture more light therfor less the camera needs to proccess and from memory has a flip out screen.

Pretty sure you can get a housing for it to for arsome under water shots

I have a mate who has had an earlier model and it takes great pics.

Here is one taken on it with one of the lures i paint

Thanks Beamsy. Looks good! Basscada showed me some his underwater shots with the waterproof housing and they look awesome! Certainly looks like a good camera the g12. Hmmm...... decisions!
