What is your favourite jighead size?

I've read a few articles lately about upsizing jigheads and plastics, yet the word I'm hearing through the grapevine is that quite a few anglers are cleaning up by downsizing their presentations.

With so many different soft plastics being used now, in all sorts of shapes and sizes. It certainly pays to have a few size head/hook combinations in your tackle box. I was just wondering what's the most popular jighead size to suit your favourite plastic?

For small profile plastics 1/24th size 4 or 6 bream bullets.

For bass minnows, 1/16th size 2 bream bullets.

For me 1/16 ball headed jigs cover most areas, the main thing that changes is the hook. I use smaller hooks (size 4) for plasics like sliders and atomic single tails, and larger hooks (size 2) for things like 3" paramax grubs.

For stickbaits, bullet head style jigs with hooks up to size 1. I also fish them unweighted on size 1 gama weedless (offset) hooks in snags sometimes.

Just common sense really - match the hook size to the plastic. Maybe a jig hook with a longer shaft, but not too large gape would be nice for fishing stickbaits though. I haven't really seen anything like that yet.

I've been using 1/8 or 1/4 gama jig heads with 1/0 hooks and 3-4" stick baits for inshore work in water up to 15m deep. We don't get much current inshore here (Perth) so you don't need to go too heavy.

I used to always use round ball jigs for everything but since I started throwing sticks baits a lot more I changed over to the Nitro Bullet head jigs. They allow more water to flow over the plastic and the action of the plastic is significantly better.

I use the 1/16th size 2’s even on 3 inch plastics and I tell you what you don’t miss many, they still take them hard.

Since I started using bullet head plastics they were rigged on my rod so when I threw some single tails or sliders around I used them and found that they also improve the action of any plastic. A few months later I'm finding that this is all I’m throwing now.

Ive always used round heads until recently. Bear asked me to join Team Nitro for the comps and gave me a handful of Nitro heads..
Never use anything else now

Jimmi and Ira you might be interested to know that the Nitro 1/16 Oz & 1/8 Oz are now available in a size 1 & 1/0 Light wire Gamakatsu hook. These jigheads are great for the Berkley 3" Bass Minnows and other stick baits.

I'll have to send some over to Bear to give you guys a look.

1/16 size 2 and 4 are still the best sellers though

i like to use the 3 gm squidgy round head as i am land based at the moment

Interesting point about the downsizing Matt.
On a recent trip down south, I found that the moment I changed to a 1/32nd jig while using stickbaits, the hit rates increased in a big way.
I've come to the conclusion the lighter weight makes for a more natural presentation, and also a longer "drop time". It is during that period that almost all hits occured.
