Entry level DSLR
Hi guys,
Well i'm after an Entry level DSLR as the title says, I am not camera smart so would like someone to point me in the right direction. My budget is $700, it must be able to shoot film aswell as have a mic jack insert.. and take good pictures of course ![]() Can anyone give me some suggestions? Cheers Todd |

have a look at the Sony Alpha A35, might be a tad more than your budget but covers most of those requirements, and takes an awesome picture.

Hey Todd,
Great to see you back, I knew Freeman was you ![]() Mate I just bought myself a Nikon 3200D and it is boss, mine came with an 18-55 lens and a 70-300 lens. All the accessories that you could think of too. Its got 24.2MP and shoots HD videos, loving it atm, awesome camera and I am very happy with it, also if you buy online it comes in comfortably under your budget ![]() But one last thing, when you buy it and take it in the boat, dont wash your hands while holding it, they dont seem to like water :P Good luck with your decision |

Hay,im not that fishing smart but know a fair bit on cameras
With lenes when it says say 18-55 that means it can zoom to 55 so thats not to far but good,i use that for all around a 300 to like 700 will zoom a long way and would be idea for taking pics of far away wildlife check out the 650d as posted above,i also bought mine form kogan, had a issue with it so they replaced it no worries. id get the 650d,18-55 and then up to you if you wanna zoom lens, close up (fisheye) or what ever |

If you want to learn photography then a DSLR will give you the flexibility to do it. As far as models and brands the big 2 are Canon and Nikon and the brand rivalry/following is at least as bad as Daiwa and Shimano. (The choice of brand is probably more important though - Canon lenses don't work with Nikon and vice versa - even though they both take perfectly good photos). If you just want to take photos and videos then there maybe better options. Higher end point and shoots for instance or if video is the main aim then a video camera. By "must be to able to shoot film" I assume you mean video. Is that the main reason you want the camera for? I mean you ask for a mic jack as well. - Film could also be interpreted as the old fashioned film in the canisters (unlikely in this day and age but I did meet a guy a while back who still only wanted to use film - but he might have been pulling my leg). Some of the top end point shoots will take a great photo and do video (don't know about the mic outlet) at lesser cost than a basic DSLR without the bulk. There is a lot to learn to get the best out of a DSLR. Have a look at the dedicated camera sites eg dpreview to see more about what cameras can do. To see sample shots have a look at Flickr or Photobucket and search by the camera model. But remember with a DSLR the lens will have a big bearing on the shots. You can also search by lens to see what they can do. And good lens can cost more than the DSLR body. There is a whole lot to learn with photography - I have a pretty basic technical grasp of what they terms mean - but as with most things the more I learn the more I find out that there is still to learn.

Wow, big shot over here knows his camera's, were you born with that knowledge?
I'm just trying to get some advice, wanting to upgrade from my original point and shoot lumix to get some better quality photos. I am still shooting videos with the lumix just would like the dslr I buy able to do both. I obviously want to learn photography otherwise I wouldn't have put the post up would I? Not that hard to comprehend, after all I said ENTRY level. FA, Any chance you can post some pictures you have shot with it? |

For some people a DSLR is really just overkill and a waste of money. Why try to point some people in the right direction?????? Won't make that mistake again.
