Rakuten??

Hi all,

Just curious has anyone bought rods from Rakuten before please? They have pretty good prices and free economy shipping, considering getting a megabass off them but ive never used them before. Any info will be much appreciated

They are not actually a retail outlet, they are an agent that works on behalf of dozens of suppliers and retail shops. Unfortunately they do not take any responsibility for anything going wrong in a transaction as they only take a commission and forward your order to the relevant wholesaler / shop.

I know plenty of people who have had no problems but I also know people who have been ripped off as well. A mate of mine forked out $1,300 for an Opus reel and had his credit card charged by the retail outlet. They didn't actually have any in stock and never planned on getting any. Rakuten put all of the onus on the retail outlet and took no responsibility for the transaction going wrong therefore my friend lost his money and as he was not in Japan could do nothing about it.

I've only purchased a lipgrip from there which was fine,its kind of like an ebay made up of hundreds of different stores,so i'd still be careful,i'd atleast research the individual store first,the only issue i had was the language barrier in emails etc you'd think a japanese business would have better business practices in dealing with dodgy sellers though, i remember a similar chinese wholesale site,where i had an issue with a seller,selling me fake goods,and the site had the guy's paypal account frozen,to the point the clown had to beg me to close my dispute.

Well I've got the next few weeks to think about it, may just fork out the extra coin for somewhere that i trust.
