I ran over a chinaman this morning

B4 you hear it from Leon or Tim, here is my morning...............

Kindly invited by Tim out on his boat this morning. We got a 6.30 start from Maylands. I caught F**K all apart from a very unlucky trumpeter. Leon did well about 3-4 to 25. Tim got a baby. But then things turned to sh*t.

Admiring Leons Strudy Finesse and Stradic 1000 I placed it back in the rod holder, being careful to secure it, but obviously not careful enough (Strudy's have a short butt). We were coming off a sand bar and somehow Leon's pride and joy in is now covered in an unknown depth of water. I can hear the groans as people read this but they are not as loud as mine. That outfit retails for $600+ in case you didn't know. We searched knee deep in mud but no dice...................

So if anyone was considering sponsoring me with gear now would be an ideal time to pipe up. Just consider my track record up to now...................85 hours and zero Bream on lures - thats impressive no?

If you fish around Gloucester Park on the flats you may get real lucky.

The poor sod of a boater who scores me as a non-boater in Walpole. (Tip - Chain your gear to the boat)

Leon now calls me captain chaos - very cutting but if the shoe fits......................

I guess the boat purchase is on hold a little longer

Thanks again Tim and Leon for the invite and the tips; I actually learnt a lot today as expensive as it was................

When i first started breamin' i went out with JP who kindly took me out and taught me a lot about breamin. My rod i had wasn't a bream rod and he let me use Mim's rod. I was scared of dropping it the whole time i was holding onto it like crazy. Dunno why, i havn't ever dropped a rod in before. But when using other people's stuff, especially good stuff worries me.

OUCH!!!!

I know how you feel.
I went out with Mad Phil a couple of weeks ago and it allmost cost me a small fortune.

Getting into the boat at maylands I allmost put my foot down on both of his 7' Strudwicks (Maybe 8 or 9 hundred $$'s worth) in the same way you would put your foot down on dry kindling for a fire to snap them down to size

I normally use a one piece 5' 9" Fenwick HMG (I've had it for a while, and it's normally used to catch live bait around reefs for offshore fishing. Now I use it more for throwing HB's around) But Phil insisted that i have a go with his 7 footer.

I could not get used to it. I think it is a combination of not being used to them and being sh*t scared of high sticking it (which i only think about when using someone elses rod even though the same applies to my fenwick) or just nervous about dropping it etc...

I'm sure these high $ rods and reels are worth every penny (Not that the Fenwick HMG's were cheap) it's just when they aren't yours they are heavy, slippery, and generally unwieldy, simply because you cannot relax and fish properly when you're worried about breaking someone elses stuff.

That said, maybe i should go and get me snorkel and mask and go treasure hunting in the river

Yeah personally I wouldn't trust myself to use (or buy) gear at the top end of the market (not yet anyway). Good luck with the treasure hunt Leethal, and I look foward to your post when you find Leons rig

Yeah right Leon; Mums the word indeed. Quiet sort of guys? Your not kidding anyone. I just beat you to the post However, I gotta admit if there was a snag in the water I freaking found it. Including the 100lb tow rope I pulled up under the bridge

BTW that stick friggen hurt more than the hip pocket

And DohDohDohDoh that was a golden moment when you went down in the mud. Suprised Tim didnt have the camera out

I feel your pain Stu_000

Mate i had my cousens fly rod in my care when some one else broke it but i still felt extremely bad! Considering he trusted me with his $100 fly rod that his wife gave to him as a birthday present a couple of years back

But i lent the money off my dad baught him a new one for the same price but a lil better qaulity and spent the next 4 months paying my dad back with my pocket money.
I managed to fix the fly rod and now i got a fly rod with no reel

Moral of this story dont lend other peoples stuff hahahahaha

Yeah good advice about borrowing gear but the sad fact is I wasn't using it. I only picked it up to have a feel for about 20 secs and then put it back in the holder. The annoying part is I made sure I put it in correctly (ie reel behind - boaty's know what I mean). But the bugger still came loose and down she went......... waiting for her new owner.......................

We didnt see it go over otherwise I would have. Water was ok but we weren't sure where it went over. We had travelled about 3-400 metres before Leon said "where's my Strudy!?" We went back to shallows where we had been but it was a needle in a haystack.

Bad luck huh?, Been meaning to pull out the diving gear, plus I can borrow some kids from the neighbours if you could put me within a two hundred metre radius Would be more than happy to return it to rightful owner may even have some nice Silstar logos on it

I think the all time classic has got to be when Paulic's brand new outboard fell off his boat in mid flight.

Studdie/Stradic - what a combo to lose.
