Braid as Backing

I need a bit of backing to go on my 2508 Exist.
Searching through my leftovers box I found 175yds of unused 8lb fireline.
As I've always used mono in the past I'm just wondering if there is any disadvantages using the fireline as backing.
I know if not tied well it can slip on the spool but a short length of mono will fix this. Are there any other reasons?
For its intended use the chances of it ever making it off the reel are slim.

if you use the mono first for a couple of wraps, then the fireline, there is no issues. The mono is just to stop it from slipping, the rest can be used as a filler no worries.

I personally dont even use mono backings at all and have never found my braid to slip, ever. Not saying it doesn't happen or can't happen, but I have had a pretty good run so far.

But yeah, no issues with using fireline as a filler as far as i can see, apart from the fact that mono is cheaper

There is another thread on this somewhere. There are particular ways of attaching the braid to the spool to stop it from slipping.

Ive got a braid backing attached to my Toray Lightfish just because it is so thin. This makes the knot small and you dont have a bump in your line from the knot the mono can make.

the mono on the bottom of the spool would come in handy as an extra shock absorber when you get stretched to the end

Braid will slip on the spool, been there many years ago. I remember having to pull in a fish by hand because the whole spool of line started slipping under pressure and I couldn't reel the fish in.

a couple of wraps of mono stops that from ever happening, try to tie a small knot, no need to have a super crazy knot, If you get down to the backing you are going to get smoked anyway. Better is breaks than having the chance of loosing your gear.
