Shimano vanquish

Any 1 got 1 of these? From what I can tell they are priety similar to the Stella , a little bit lighter but a couple less ball bearings , am I better off just staying with the Stella for around the same price

I don't have one and I'm not an expert but I believe they are designed as a much lighter finesse style top end reel a la the exist/steez. If you were using it exclusively for breaming it may be a better option but for heavier estuary/light salt water stuff it is hard to go past a Stella.

Just some quick initial thoughts on the Vanquish.

It feels different to most Shimano reels i have used. Its got a 5.0 gear ratio, so it feels a bit more similar to high end Daiwas to spin. I tend to like it more this way.

It is insanely light. 160g for the C2000S.

Handle play is still present, although greatly reduced. It has less handle play than the FE Stellas.

Build Quaity looks great, but i dont think it is quite Stella standard.

Drag system is fantastic, as with most higher end Shimanos. They leave Daiwa for dead with their drags. They just dont sound as good though lol.

It is bloody noisy!

If i had to rate it against a Daiwa, i would say its at Certate level overall.

Im going to have a decent bash with it over the weekend, and if something else comes up, ill let yu guys know.

Interesting observation. I have one arriving soon and I'm hoping it's better than a certate!

How hard have you fished it?

Not very hard yet mate.

Certates are gun mate. Not many reels can get anywhere near it, at that price point in my opinion!

I gave my new c2000s a bash this morning.
Drag is superb, louder than a Stella.
Very smooth.
Very light.
Slight handle play but improved over a Stella.
They do make a bit of a whirring noise at high speed but unless you're in a quiet room you don't notice.
IMO casting is slightly improved over a certate/exist using the same line and leader.

Sits inbetween a certate and an exist. The drag in the vanquish is the best of the lot, which is very important to me. A bad drag will lose you fish.

The Vanquish might be worth a look. Is it only available in overseas online stores ?

My local bloke told me six months ago that the 3000 and 4000 from memory was destined for Aus in 2013. Hopefully that is the case but I don't understand why they wouldn't bring the 1000 and 2000 out to really compete with the higher end Daiwa's? I am pretty keen to get a 3000 for the NRX though.

After doing a full service on mine (C2000S), I've found that sometimes they don't spin as freely as you'd like if you/they over-tighten the rotor nut.

Loosen it a little and see how it works out for you.

Love mine now.

gave mine a good bash this afternoon.

Id confirm it sits between a Certate and an Exist.

Drag is lovley, and nice and light.
It does make a louder than usual whirring sound but only when cranking fast and in a quiet location. Nick J may disagree on that point

If someone from Shimano aust. reads this I recommend you bring this reel in the various 1000, and 2000 sizes.
