Small Stream Trout Rod

Hey,

Does anyone know of a cheap trout rod between 5' and 5'6" they could recommend? Something like the Daiwa Presso currently available in the States (having trouble finding a store that will ship at a reasonable price) would be perfect. Unfortunately it doesn't look like Daiwa Aust is bringing out the shorter models.

Rod will be used on small trout in tiny streams about as wide as your car. Lots of overhanging scrub and creative casting required. Mainly casting Celtas or tiny Rapalas. Used with 1000 size Daiwa reel. Something slow and noodly would be ideal.

Really don’t want to spend a heap as the rod will lead a hard life (tripping over, smashing it into trees, bashing through the bush with it, swinging at stray snakes etc).

Thanks!

Banax Vanessa? 2 models, both are 6'. Seems a decent short trout rod for under $100 and looks terrific IMO.

I have a mate who has one of these and has been using it for about 9 months now for breaming and swears by it. His biggest fish so far on that rod is 42 cm ttf. Handled it no dramas.

Loomis SJR6400 5'4 2-6lb are a handy bit of gear don't own one personally but used my mates he's got it paired with a 1000 stradic and its a good combo feels much stronger than 2-6 but still tosses light lures a mile just don't like the long rear grip/butt section.

G-Loomis TSR690S-1 GLX - the best pure trout rod you'll ever pick up.

Thanks guys,

Will look into the NS and Majorcraft rods. Really need something around the 5' length and as cheap and durable as possible as rods literally takes a pounding. More interested in being able to get a cast in than actual feel/balance of the rod hence not overly fussed on quality.

So will leave the GLX at home

You could look at the little kayak style rods - they're are some that are shorter than 5'.
When my son was younger I bought him a little 2 piece rod at Ottos which was aimed at kayaking, nice and light, solid glass tip (but it was still responsive) would be not indestructable but better than graphite. Can't remember the brand though.
My uncle used to use a telescopic rod for that style of fishing (that was 20years ago and he had a reasonable silstar one). He would rig up - collapse the rod rigged - stick it inside a shoulder bag - walk to where he wanted to fish - expand the rod - fish - collapse rod walk and repeat the process all without rerigging or snagging on trees. He almost always caught the good fish because I was way behind untangling my rod from a darn tree.

Majorcraft from plat. I've got 3 of these bad boys now and they are wicked
Cost 80,100 and 250 or so for them. Very nice blanks too, worth checking out
