They were thick on the goldy last year right through the new year eating anything you could throw at them they are weird you just see this sliver neon bar and then bamm they go great on bream gear. They are good eating you have to rub the silver off them though.............maybe i should go and have a look to see if they are back

Used to chase them in the hawesbury, as Steve said good on the chew just rub the silver off, but need to be a reasonable size.

They are good fish to catch, swim just as good backwards as forwards but once you grap them the don't move at all. Those teeth can make you bleed with even a tiny nick

Would be great fun on surface, chuck some photo's up with some of those nasty fangs.

Are they any size, we used to get them to 6ft or more in the hawkesbury and the big ones were fun.

Cheers,

Apparently really good mackeral baits z-man must make a 16inch hairtail plastic for a reason.

Pretty sure one of the most useless fish though, ok on surface till de hooking time.

yeh Asians love them - a mate of mine years back was trapping them in numbers and was getting a bucket load per kg...

I just hate them when they get around the 5 foot mark in length as they're hard to control and ruin 100lb like its nothing - and the hook's are gone!

Yeah I have caught my fair share of them in the Hawkesbury River over the years.
Last year the hairtail in the hawkesbury didnt seem to leave over the summer months. Usually only catch them in the dead of winter here. We were finding them all over the Jewfish spots that held prawn schools. During these times you could see them leaping out of the water like tailor. Crazy seeing 5-6ft fish doing this in dead calm water!
They ate everything from surface to hards and you'd have to check ya leader near every cast!
