Braid Selection Help ???

Hey guys , im looking to change braid and i was thinking Berkley Fireline Crystal 4lb , how thin is this ?What does it normally break at? im looking to use it for breaming and bass so should i step up to 6lb or 8lb? My twinpower has nanofil 8lb and that seems super fine which is great as it casts a mile but the reel im looking to respool is filled with 4lb Finns braid and it seems quite thick for 4lb and casts like poo
and not to mention the wind knots i keep getting, worst braid ive ever used to be honest , so help me out guys im clueless when it comes to braid

Cheers Jase ...

Check out this site for tests on true breaking strain vs diameter

Breaking Strain Capacity: http://www.paulusjustfishing.com/4linetesting.htm
EDIT:Beat me to it Nugget.

As a rule of thumb I stay away from most Berkley lines. The exception for me is the 2kg Exceed in white (I think Berkley has kicked a winner there).

All three of my bass combos carry 8lb Sunline Super PE. The extra breaking strain isn't for the fish. Just a little more forgiving with the snags.

I always use power pro. Good abrasion resistance. Knots well and isn't super thin. Bit isn't thick rope for the break strain. I've caught some good fish on 8lb power pro ( flathead, big tarpon) 4lb power pro I've caught mangrove jack to 56 cms in some very hairy country and it handle it great. Where as a thinner pe style line I think I would of lost it due to abrasion.

Go the crystal in 3lb, most of my reels run it and for the price it's hard to beat IMO,

I agree Crystal Fireline Exceed or Fireline is the go mate, but i use 4lb, but know heaps that use 3lb, I only use 4lb as it dosnt wind knot or very rarely in my experience its just that little bit thicker. It will wind knot when its brand new sometimes so be carful, but after two trips it will be dialed in. The 3lb prob give you little extra casting distance. If you fish clear water a lot then you need to be using crystal wont spook the Bream as much as normal Braid with 5M leader min. Snagy Structure areas drop the leader length.

Regards Nordy

You would be surprised what a difference running a long leader can make mate. I rarely have less than 2m and in clear conditions and winter will go past 5m of of leader. You should be running anything from 3lb-8lb depending on where you are fishing. 4lb would probably be the go for the Breaming mate and just up it for your bass fishing. Reason i say 4lb is i have noticed a lot of the water you are fishing seems pretty clear so although you are fishing snaggy country you may need a drop in your leader. As for Braid i run Sunline Super PE 8lb, 4b exceed and 3lb crystal. Actually don't mind fireline cause it is completely hassle free and cheap

I was originally using 4lb leader but its just way too light for off the rocks around redcliffe , was losing lures like mad , now i havent lost a lure in a while
