Daiwa maintenance question

Hey guys

I recieved my certate 2004 high gear custom back from a daiwa service recently. It feels great, but there doesn't seem to be any visible grease on the reel around the drag or on the main shaft.

My question is, should there be? Do I need to apply some grease before using it?

When I bought my steez 2004 it came with loads of grease in those places, yet when I recieve it back from a service it has none. It feels oily in those places so maybe they have just used oil???

Any suggestion s appreciated as I have no idea about servicing reels , thanks

Justin

A little bit never hurt any reel the oil makes it feel smooth but grease protects its.

Ok thanks Mitch, guess I'll get a little grease in there then. It just confuses me as to why Daiwa wouldn't send it back without grease?

HOB - This particular reel went for a 10 second swim in the salt water. Sent it to daiwa myself, just download the service sheet from the Daiwa website and ship it. Because of the salt water it stung me $133 for some new bearings and a service. I think a standard service is around the $60 mark?

cheers

Standard service is around $55 dollars for replacement parts extra. I am unsure why hey don't send them back with grease, I have had a steez and sol serviced and they came back dry. I even asked for extra grease and that I would pay extra for it.

Just be careful adding grease as if you can see it as this is also a good spot for sand/salt and grit to get caught up. Just got my reels back and same no visible sign of grease but upon opening them up plenty of grease inside. Just my opinion.

On the plus side the turn around time is great at the moment

G'day Justin. What was the turn around time on your reels?

Good to know. Wonder how they go if you have any aftermarket part like bearings.

Sent mine on the Wednesday two weeks ago and had it the tuesday after so pretty quick and I think it would be the same turn around time with aftermarket parts

I meant more, would they come back with aftermarket parts or be replaced with Daiwa parts?

Grease on the outside of the reel is a good form of waterproofing eg: grease on the outside of a bearing shield...

If your careless of getting sand and grit onto reels that is your only gripe, I've never managed to drop a reel onto sand or on a boat deck luckily.

The more water resistant grease like 2-4-C on a reel will protect the metallic parts from corrosion and wear.
