Toray Radius PE
Hi folks ... has anyone been using Toray Radius PE ??
the blurb says ... Designed as a saltwater casting braid Toray Radius has improved body for better handling in windy conditions. Thanks to Torays new technology they are able to achieve this whilst still keeping the braid amazingly thin for improved casting performance. ... but I had to retie the leader 4-5X because of bunched wind knots that were so bad the braid broke. Using 10lb braid with 4/6 lb leaders ... using G Loomis Dropshot 2-4 kg Emeraldas 2500 reel Never had that trouble before ![]() ![]() Interested in people's thoughts 'Toga (Steve)

How full is your spool?
I haven't used this braid but I know I had trouble with wind knots years ago when I first started using braid, usually because I over filled spool. |

I love this stuff,
Only use it on bc gear tho. Check you have the line a couple mm from the spool lip

I've used it extensively on spin reels and haven't noticed it any worse or better for windknots than any other braid. Windknots are more to do with how the reel is spooled and how you're retrieving line onto the spool than the line itself.

Ive used the radius on a few spin reels and cant fualt it. Best value braid around and coming in a 200m spool is a plus.

i was actually gonna put a similar post up. i got sum spooled up a while back and first trip out ended up having to cut close to 30m off from 2 bad windknots in very little fishing time and then i put it away. took it out the other night and was casting around for 1 or so and another bad wind knot
def could not have been overspooled as i already ripped a heap off from the previous session. in saying this i was using a new 2004 rcs spool on my 2000 luvias. didnt think that would affect it though???? feels like an awesome braid when your not trying to untangle it lol.

If you are continually retrieving line with little to no tension, ie with ultra light bream lures, you are more likely to encounter wind knots. If you squeeze the line a little between two fingers every now and then you should be sweet.

When retrieving some surface lures or hopping plastics loose raps of line can be wound onto the spool. This can then affect the next cast, as a rule of thumb when using those techniques every 10 casts ill burn 1 back so that the line lays correctly onto the spool. The other reason this may be happening is because you’re fishing a short leader. If your leader is to short the leader knot will not get the momentum to fly out the guide properly. When this happens the braid will overtake the leader know causing guide wrap.
cheers alex

I have radius and has never given me a problem. Spooled and fished the same way as my crystal, exceed, stren, suffix, powerpro ....
Did you use enough tension when spooling up? Also what the two guys above said. Are you reeling back with enough tension on line? Keeping an eye out for loose wraps? What lines are you coming from? I noticed fused braids are not as sensitive to slack winding too.

I've used Super PE .. Power Pro .. Microfuse ... Exceed .. get the odd wind knot and have spooled them as described earlier ... keep reasonable tension retrieving and watch for stray loops but have never had the probs in one session with the Radius ... will take some line off and retension .. and give it another go ... like the look of it sooooo thin for diameter and colour coded length

I've been using it for around 9 months now and have never had a problem with it. It's caught small bream and Salmon to 3kg snapper and no problem. I do at least twice a session make sure I retrieve it back on the spool with a lot of tension though?
This may help. Dale. |
