The FG Knot?

Hey all,

I've tried a million times but I just can't make it work in light line. Even in heavier line it is a struggle with fluoro. Lowest I can tie it down to is about 20lb with any degree of confidence.

Does anyone have a secret to success?

Does anyone else even use an FG in light line?

Cheers, Simonosy

I thought the FG was for braid to heavy mono/fluoro! To tie leader to braid I use the surgeons knot. Easy.

Try the sebile knot. It's a wrap knot like the fg but no need for a bobbin.
It's a dream to cast through the guides. I have been using this knot for the last 2 years and it has not failed me once! I have tied it down as low as 10lb but any lower ill use a slim beauty. U can find a how to on youtube, just find the video by saltyshores, it gives the best demo!hope that helps

The FG knot is the same as the Sebille knot as does not require a bobbin. It is fine for lighter fluro leaders and not just heavy mono.
There are several videos on YouTube but in all honesty they are all average.
I tie my FG for every braid to fluro/mono connection. I frequeuntly tie it in 0.4PE to 3Lb fluro for breamming.
Some videos show you to form a triangle with the braid in one hand but I prefer to do the under/over wrapping technique shown in the "Sebille" knot video on YouTube. I do 12 under wraps and 12 over wraps then an overhand (hitch), then pull it tight. I heavier braid classes you can pull tight with a hitch but in the lighter braids you will need a hitch to prevent the knot from sliding (you want it to pull tight). Once the knot has pulled tight I finish it with 4 half hitches then cut the fluro leaving a few mm, then burn the fluro with a lighter to get it mushroom out and form a nice end. NOTE that the fluro does not need to be burnt, but it is just a nice way to finish off the knot. It does not prevent the FG from slipping at all, the FG will still hold even if the fluro is cut flush to the knot.
It is very very very easy to tie once you have practiced it. It is the best knot for leader to braid, it's slim, strong and will always break at the hook end if snagged or smoked

Just watch some videos, read some knot books and practice. It's the best
Good luck

Only ever used Improved Albright and Slim Beauty for light lines. Is there any advantage to using FG for lighter work?

Sweet man. Cheers heaps for that. The trick is the overhand! YipYIP! Stoked!

Been tying it in big stuff for ages and just could NOT get it to bind in small stuff. That solved my problem. Ripper. Love BreamMaster.

Tahnks all for the replies.

Interesting i've been wanting to give this a try since you mentioned it on my lure thread,is there a strong risk of damage when you burn the end? or is it better to use a lighter with a fine pointed flame? would this item be useful? http://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/p...r-fg-knot.html

A cigarette lighter is fine mate. There is a risk if you burn the fluro tag to close to the knot. In windy conditions (ie out on the boat sometimes) I just cut the fluro snug to the knot, but in a controlled atmosphere (at home or a still day out on the water) it is pretty easy to burn the tag and get it to mushroom right snug to the knot. Just makd sure you don't burn the braid!!!

I never burn the end
Use the knot for everything from 4lb to 400lb works great
no need for burning if you tie the knot with tension on all strands, that's the key'i have found in my 3 years of using it.

You can buy mini rope cutter / sealer's that work on battery power and work like a treat creating those blunt end tag's.
