Steez Tornado

Hey guys

I have recently bought a steez tornado for heavier breaming (we don't get any of those stonckers up her in BrisVegas unfortunately!). I love this rod, especially matched to my steez 2500.

But it has left me thinking, just how strong is this rod? It is rated at 2-6lb with casting at 1/32-1/8th... but I suspect it can handle alot more than this.

As I have spent a good sum of money this rod, I don't really want to push it to the limit and have it snap on me.

So... Is there anyone out there that has experienced landing big fish on this rod? Maybe big flathead, Jewies, angry jacks???

thanks

Set your drag right and you wont snap it no matter what grabs it.

Thats it, all about the way you control your rod and the fight, i have the exact same outfit loaded with 4lb fireline and have just started using it for jewies, fish up to about 80cm, take your time and now worries, most of those svf graphite rods will have alot more lifting power in the but then you think when applied in the correct manner. However mine has lost the top section, tip to first runner so just moved the tip down, but in my opinion is the best unfortunate accident ever as it has added a bit more ability to cast harder, bigger weights.

They can handle a lot mate. I've given mine a work out on a few big Stingrays!! If you don't high stick it to much it will never snap.

Wow big stingray! How do you fight it? Do you pull it with your rod or with your reel? Sometimes I wonder when using light gear to catch bigger fish, such as jack, you can use heavy leader and braid to avoid cut off, but if the rod doesn’t have enough power then how to pull the fish out from snag? Should I “low sticking”to fight it with the line and reel instead? If fighting it with the rod and maintaining rod angle as usual, either the rod doesn’t have enough power to pump out the fish, or the rod would snap before the heavy line breaks.

You should never use the reel to winch fish out. It'll destroy your reel in no time. You'd have to exhaust the fish and just guide it to the boat, rather than just try and muscle it out.

when your in a fight with a fish just use your best judgement and feeling different situations require a different approch knowlage comes with experience the more fish you catch on the rod = the more you learn about its capailities.
I've been fishing with my lox and sol for ages now I know exactly what that rod can acheive and how much pressure it can apply but I've only just started fisihing with my steez amraam and 2004 certate and I'm still learning what it can handle, until I've got alot of time on the water with it and put some good fish too it's name I won't know how far I can push it

The tornado i would think would be more rated to 4-8lb rather then 2-6lb
it has alot of power.

If i was after a power stick or even the racks with say
comparing say a lox 1-3 and the tornado 1-3
the tornado wins hands down.
The only gripe is the 25 stripper rather then a 30

For bream, yeah you can get away with it, but for large jacks and jewies? I'd never do it. Not unless I was using a larger reel than a 2500.
