this looks the easiest way to make one. You could probably attach the clip using a cats paw to stop it moving within the loop.

They cast fine mate, although some people will use a bead at the lure end to prevent winding a crimp through the top eye of the rod.

I would say so mate.
Personally I would finish the leader of a bit differently but there are many ways to do it.
One way is to double over the twisted leader again and twist it again to form a small (30cm ish) section of 4x strong twist and secure it with a crimp. One advantage of this is that it gives U a loop at both ends and also more abrasion resistance at the business end.

Hmmmmm
Thats the part thats eluding me
Doubling it again for that 30 odd cm of extra protection
If i was following the video, would i just do as he does and complete the leader and then get the drill out again and repeat except shorter yeah?
Then slide a crimp up and over the end of the doubled double and crimp
That sound about right?
Are there any alternatives to crimping?

Thats how I would do it mate. U could try tying off but I think a crimp would be simpler. If using a crimp though I would always use a bead on the leader to protect the tip guide. Also place a small length of tube on the leader to protect the loop.
When Barra fishing at prosapine the guide used a split ring on the loop instead of a clip. It meant lures had to be changed using split ring pliers but it it is the strongest way to make the connection. I preferred it but I hate clips with a passion.

Might go with solid ring to a split ring, not a huge fan of tyin directly to a split unless i have no option, like classic barra lures whos tow point has edges
