Help deciding reel size
Hey guys, im currently saving to buy a Shimano Sustain FG but i cant decide what size reel to buy, tossing up between 1000 and 2500 , ive always used a 2500 size reel so i guess its the thought of change that is causing my double guessing, Im gonna be using it for bass , bream and Flathead, let me know your thoughts and why

I had the same issue when I went to buy a Rarenium. Bought the 2500. Though later swapped it out for a Daiwa 1500. Better option. Mid range in size. Daiwa 2000 series might also suit.

Ive got a 2500 sustain. Use for, everything from bream to,tarpon and trevally. Recently, used a friends 1000 stradic. Way too small imo. Definetely go the 2500 way more versatile. Especially if u,get a 2nd spool for it like I am

Personally i'd look at both on the rod ,I didnt when i bought my 2500 which i'm very happy with, balances well etc,but I now feel, the 1000 may have been better suited, easier to control the bail with your fingers, I find it to be a bit difficult to reach down to it fully with my fingers, when trying to control the descent of small vibes and the line on the drop when teabagging and not miss hits in the process. just another angle to think about.

I think that's why I converted to daiwa. 1000 felt too small 2500 felt to big a 2000 daiwa fits the Bill nicely. Now this post did not help at all ha.

I have a Daiwa Advantage 1500 A, my 1000's felt too small and the 2500 felt to big. But if your going to go with the Shimano go with the 1000,

I used to use daiwa , but i feel they just dont feel as smooth as shimano and daiwa seem to be heavier then shimano, maybe the more expensive daiwas are alot better... this is just my opinion, but i guess its a bit like Ford vs Holden

Take your rod down to the tackle shop, try both and see what feels best for you.
After using 2500's for a while the 1000 might feel a bit like a toy, but you'll get used to it pretty quick if you decide to go with one. |

I'd go a 2500 for a bit more versatility.

yeah i think im leaning more that way, then at least if i catch something crazy that tries to smoke me ill have a bit more line to play with too and will give me a better chance

1000! Makes everything more fun! I use my 1000 twinpower for everything from bream and bass to snaps on the shallow reefs. Also got the toga in my avatar on it, never missed a beat haha.

I recently got a 1000 as I already have a couple of 2500's. Wish I bought it sooner as others have said they're great fun and I like having something different in my arsenal.

I started off with 2500s...also have a couple of 1000s, I find they balance better on the rod...still plenty of line to handle long, hard runners and the difference in casting distance is negligible compared to the 2500s.
