I don't think that budget will allow for a Certate 1003 or 2004 but that would be my choice if you can get one at that price. Other than that I'd be looking at the Luvias DA Custom which I think are a brilliant light little reel especially considering what they're going for now.

There's also the Gekkabijin 2004 but from what I understand these are basically the same as a Luvias anyhow so imo not worth the extra coin.

personal preference i guess. if any of your mates have any i would have a flick with them to get a feel. but i would suggest freams, or maybe even a small diawa sol. nothing above 2004 for breaming tho hope this helps

I like the sol's for a mid priced reel. I own 3 of the 2500's.

As nice as the SOL's are the price difference now between that and a Luvias makes the Luvias the clear winner now.

I'd go a SOL or a HEARTLAND if you can still find one lying around. If you're not worried about warranty then get a CERTATE from digitaka. If you want the best reel for your budget with warranty go the LUVIAS DA as I think they're pretty cheap on Mo's currently ($299) are they discontinued now or what? I wouldn't pay the 400+ they used to be no way in hell. They're definately not worth the $150 extra they were over a SOL, but very worth it at $299

I would rather go a SOL tho because im a nancy boy who cares about looks and the DA LUVIAS looks like... well... crap. The spool ruins the whole reel. Blinged with an RCS spool and knob, yea not to bad.

@ ado - I think the Luvias DA Custom looks more porn than the silver JDM model and Fuego 'A' USA version.

I have just recently purchased my first Daiwa ... the 2011 Caldia and am finding it very nice to use and depending on what size you get its weight is very close to / if not the same as the luvias. And it comes in under your budget as well. Good luck with your purchase. Regards HBt.

I had a 1003 Tate, wasn't to bad. upgraded to a 2004 steez. I was never a big fan of 1000 size reels.

each to their own I guess

I've only ever heard good things about the Certate. I was going to buy one before I bought my Steez but swayed because I think they might discontinue the Steez soon. I'll probably still get a Certate at some point.
