Shimano symeter 2500fj problem

Hey guys I just wanna know if anyone has had any problems with this reel in the past? The last 2 times ive been fishing my reel has been really hard to slow roll its like it sticks or something anyway I opened the side plate yesterday and found that the rubber friction ring under the spool had half come off and was rubbing on the main gear....ive tried pushing it back up but it doesnt seem to wanna stay....i thought I may have fixed it but today I can feel it has happened again....what to do?

mate ive had one for about 3 and a half years and after the 1st year of a lot of use it ended up really noisy, pulled it apart fully oiled and still loud under winding. I didnt impress me at all.
anyway its been a visitors reel ever since

Bummer about your drama mate

If you do send it back to shimano don't tell them you took it apart, they'll try and swing it back around on you, shimano are pretty lenient tho. Just give them call on their customer service line, tell them how frustrated and disappointed with the reel you are and you just want the issue fixed. They'll help you out

yup, I was winding in, it just stopped and does not work. I gave it to a mate at the local fishing store for a look and he said the internals look like they had been run over by a truck! Fairly well maintained, 1 yr old

ive read you can remove this friction ring and it will work fine but my mind still tells me they put it there for a reason, it worked fine up until this ring problem it has been a sweet reel

Mate that ring does that to me only when I've opened it up too, it's supposed to be above the side plate when the reel goes back together, me thinks you may not be putting it back together properly? I just pulled mine apart for a quick clean in the last half hour to have a look

Tom, it's some of that new superslick 8 powerpro. It's ok but a bit thick for rating.
