Snapper on Plastics

A few mates and myself decieded to fish a new area in anticipation for the Dave Irvine Snapper Classic and managed a fairly slow day except for this monster, a tusk fish and another small snapper.

This was the monster from the deep, we initially thought small kingy or sambo and was surprised to say the least when we saw it!!!

6.1kgs and 81cms to the tip of the tail.

There was a bit of activity on the sounder but it was hard to get to the bottom because of a string current around th bottom of the reef

It was caught on a Mann's Plastic... It was off a cheap wall, cost him about $2 for the packet.

Worst thing is I had the same lure in my tackle box but i'm sure he got to the bottom cause he had heavier jig heads than me.

I caught the tusk fish and small snapper on a 5" Damiki... they stink! with scent, dont last long but you get 12 in pack with is alot for a 5" placcy and I'll get some more.

Im pretty sure it was 30lb tuffline and 20lb leader. It was in 120 feet of water (my sounders a US version) and coral/reef bottom.

The Mann's was a paddle tail and it was floating out the back "swimming" in the current. We had trouble hitting bottom then staying there because of the current so he used a 3/4 jig head.

Great fish there mate, being 81cm I gather you only sacrificed a $500 combo over the edge, if you'd donated say a Loomis and Stella combo (like Hooked Morrison) then that fish would have busted over the 90cm mark.

Seems like everyone in Oz is dragging in a pink except me.

cheers
