Pirtek Challenge Reports

Hey guys

Fished the pirtek challenge today with little luck. My plan was to head out and chase bream figuring i'd have some bycatch of flathead or whiting anyway. Had a very slow day but here's a quick report anyway. In the morning I hit the racks early with plastics and stick minnows with no luck. We headed down to Paradise marina (local cafe) got some breakfast and headed further into the lake to fish some flats. We arrived at our first flat chucking Ecogear PX45's and Cranka Cranks over the weedbeds for very little luck but a few on the PX45. After half an hour in and being very still I realised they weren't aggressive enough to hit hardbodies so I thought i'd try a plastic. I quickly rigged up an olive coloured Gladiator Smash Bait on a 1/40th TT's HWS jighead and smothered it in S-Factor. Few casts in I got a solid wack, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and then slack line, damn. Next cast I came up tight again but with a smaller bream at 29 fork which absolutely swallowed the 7cm smashbait so far down I couldn't see the lure! After plugging away for another half an hour we decided it was too still on the flats and too head upriver and see how it's fishing. The tide wasn't high enough on the banks to get any good fish but we got plenty of rat bream and whiting on Atomic and Cranka cranks. We then decided it was time to hit some floating racks we often have success on. Their was alot of bream in there but getting them out was a different story, a few bustoffs and a few not so good hookups with worm hooks led to a change to head back into the lake and actually chase the target species. Rigged up some heavier leaders and jigheads and chased a few flatties and only ended up boating two!

As I said a slow day but still good to be back out after having a few weeks off.

How did everyone else go?

We fished the Nambucca today very average day. Myself only managed a 37cm Flatty and my mate managed a 43cm. Five fish on the boat in 6 hours. Hard day at the office.

But the 86CM stonker was the winner put up the best fight of the day. Caught on a live poddy.

But a good day was had by all the wives think this should happen every Sunday and we agree

It was good to see all the Blue hats on the water today, and thank you to all on the water for having their fishing manners with them not one person was see taking others drift or anchoring near others good to see.

Sometimes after a hard reboot of a camera or (a brand new camera) the date isn't set, I don't think he is bluffin'.

If you care to disagree then find me evidence of an DAIWA AIRD reel being available in 2008 LOL
