Unhappy Repair of graphite rods

Hey

Im not a happy chappy.... Had a car accident yesterday, today I went to go fishing and my rod got snapped (my fault, I left a little tool kit on the back parcel shelf after i put it there out of the way when i gave the car a vacuum yesterday, had the rod through the splitfold rear seat and when i reversed out of the garage it fell and snapped my rod clean in half grrrrrrr!!!)

Anyway, has anyone had any experience with repair of graphite rods. Is it possible and will the rod be anywhere near the same as before it was broken? Or will it never be the same.

My rod has snapped about half way along the breaks very clean. What are my chances of getting it fixed?

Thanks
matt

OUCH

As if the car accident wasn't enough!!!,
Matt to my knowledge you can't repair the actual break, you can however , provided it's in a suitable place you may be able to turn it into a 2 piece or a permanant one piece.
The only person that can really answer your question is a reputable Rod builder.
Sorry for your loss

I fixed a fly rod by putting a bit of metal i found at my uncles that had a bit of flex but it u had a piece of another rod would be better. I put it in the 2 broken bits then left a gap of about a inch then filled the gap with fiber glass i also bent the metal rod a bit so it stays it the same spot.

Theres a problem howeva if u hook on to something big and the rod bends to much i think the rid will snap again where the metal rod ends because it might not flex as much as the graphite.

Not the best way but it was cheap for me to do and i havnt hooked anything on it yet but i reckon it would be ok as i have bent it a fare bit without any problems just try not to have ur rod directly up when u hook a fish means theres less bend obviously.

Hi Matt,
Unfortunately, a repair is not really worth it or even possible most of the time. And even if you were able, it would never be the same and would most likely break again. It wouldn't be reliable. Your best bet is to strip the guides off (if they are in good condition) and build another.
Cheers,
Cindy

What if the break was 2-2.5cm from the tip?
This happened to me on my light action Procaster X.
A new runner has been placed on the top of the clean break.
