poor fitting 2 piece

hey guys,
With my series one raider looking worse for wear I decided to give it some much needed attention.
I stripped the blank down to just the reel seat and sanded the old maroon colour off the blank. I've since rebinded everything with a cherry red and it's looking good.
Now my problem is that by removing the paint off the blank i've changed the diameter of the blank at the join and there is now noticable play in the join, not much but it is there and it is noticable when flicking the rod or giving it a wiggle.

Can I send the blank to restore the tolerances between the two halves at the join?
Or
Will my best bet be to epoxy the two halves together to eliminate the join and and possible play?

Thanks in advance

You couldn't just try building up the inner section with epoxy and sanding it down to a snug fit could you? Not sure of the strength or how long it would last but it might be worth a shot.

Try building it up with epoxy like Dave66 mentioned & if that fails rough up the male end of the ferrule with 400 wet & dry, put a single wrap of glass cloth around it, apply the resin & then sand it back with 1200 wet & dry carefully until you get a snug fit. I did that to fix the same problem with a mates rod about 5yrs ago & he still uses it to this day with no movement in the ferrule.

there something called the ferrule wax.apply em on and see
how it goes.when you wiggle the rod,are you sure that the joint is the one that makes some noise?.most rod,the noise comes from the guides.

If the free play isn't too bad, I've fixed this problem before by just applying a couple of coats of varnish to replace the removed paint layers.

get some "doctor zooks sex wax" which is for surfboards...its great for lubricating rod joins and taking up slack..

Or just epoxy it on if you don't mind a 1 piece rod
